Thanks for all the positive comments, I've been drooling over this box for quite a while and glad I could finally make it happen.

Seriously though, it is driving me crazy that I can't find anything on a full length writing surface, anyone have any ideas?

Nice box! While I like my 1003 just fine I would love a 1023 for the second wide drawer, unfortunately they're still to new for me to find one in my price range...

My 1003 has the full length/depth writing surface on the top right hand drawer, might be worth asking your dealer if he can get a parts list for the 1003, I bet it's the same drawer.

I love that green color almost makes me want to sell my purple matco triple bay and get the green snappy triple bay. Except mine is paid for and the snappy would not be.

That box, and the tools in it, are pretty sweet. I'm really starting to like that green color. I'm 23 and also a tech (with a decent sized snap on box) but your tool collection blows mine away! Oh well I guess I need to start buying more lol

As for the vacuum gauge, you show me where to hook one up on a 60 Series Detroit or a Cat C-13 and I'll give you $100!! :lol_hitti
I will accept $50 or that small swedish pipe wrench and I will show you exactly where it is on a series60 (most) I work with them on a regular basis and have used the vacuum gauge multiple times.

Awaiting my prize in the mail....

Has the offer closed yet? :D

That's a nice set up for anyone let alone a 22 year old Tech. I am really impressed you've decided to invest in your career and not waiting for someone to do it for you.

We have a rule in my shop for any of the Techs, young or old. You can borrrow it once, even twice. When the 3rd time comes, you've just bought yourself a tool. Looks to me, you're way ahead of the game on Tool purchases.

NICE JOB !

NICE JOB !

In my shop right now (7 bay truck shop) there are only 3 guys including me, we had 4 but he took another offer. The shop foreman, who has been working on trucks for about 20 years, is very willing to lend tools, if you need it to get the job done, then go get it from his box, no problems. Then we have another guy just starting out with pretty much a basic craftsman set of tools with little experience but a brain in his head and I lend tools to him no problem.

One nice thing is if I find myself using something out of the foreman's box a lot, I'll buy it when I can afford it. Same goes for the rookie working under me. That way we don't go broke buying tools we NEED but can't AFFORD, we simply borrow until we can afford. Works very well.

I do usually go by the "Thrice borrowed I'll buy it" rule, but for example today I'm in the middle of an overhaul on a CAT 3406 B truck engine and I needed to torque head bolts to 330 ft lbs. I used the bosses 3/4" Snap-On torque wrench, an $800 tool that I will probably borrow fifty times before I buy my own.

I take a lot of pride in my tool collection and I'm glad everyone here appreciates much of the same values I do.

Being local to fargo, I'm guessing you work for Freightliner, or the State, am I even close. The only two places that would have both Detroits and Cats, and wash their there own trucks. I guess you maybe work for one of the smaller places NWtruckandTrailer, what not.

Nice tool box by the way. I would love to have a box like that, but I'm an engineer. I love that color too.

what are those locking pliers with the chain for? Oil filters I assume? and did you make them or buy em like that? Very nice box btw

Honestly I've never used that wrench, I inherited it form my Godfather's father when he passed, but never know when it'll come in handy.

Work for a smaller privately owned shop over in the Moorhead industrial park. We do outside work as well as maintain our fleet of 8 trucks (4 KW's, 4 Pete's, 2 Livebottom's and 7 End Dumps) hence the washing issue. We also have 2 mobile service trucks and are on call 24Hrs.

Nice set up OP. Love the extreme green, got that color for my rollcart.
How long have you been spiniing wrenches?

Professionally? Maybe two years (1 year at Tires Plus :thefinger and one year where i am currently) but I grew up on a farm and have always been working on something at sometime.

Well, 1) I never offered YOU the deal directly, 2) you know what i meant, 3) on the other hand I am a man of my word and will work something out but i need to see first

Nah, I was ribbing you, and don't actually want to collect. (I plan on buying that wrench and it's big brother from toolsdelivered) If you feel like giving anything, contributing a how-to write up would be excellent. :)

Anyways, I will have to go find the shop camera. For the S60, you may find it on the left side of the engine, at the top of the injection pump. A small port possibly covered with a black rubber cap. I believe this is an optional fitting. "compucheck". The ports location (or pipe plug maybe if not equipped) is on the suction side of injection pump. Placing the vacuum gauge at this point measures the vacuum between the suction side of the pump and the fuel filter/water separator.

Can be used to diagnose no-starts or low power issues, and tell if steel canister style filters are restricted, pinched lines, loss of prime/air leaks, etc. Can also be used to power-prime the engine by hooking up a pump to this port. Handy when replacing steel canister filters that are mounted upside down and cannot be filled when replaced.

I am looking for about 4 or 5" of vacuum. Too much and I have some kind of restriction on the suction line/filter. Too little and I have a dead injection pump or most likely an air leak. By applying pressurized fuel to this port I can find/eliminate leaks, which are usually related to fuel filter housing/o-ring.

Compared to what??? As a pro tech, he'll easily get a good return on investment over the long term. A box like that will easily last through this guy's entire career.

As far as price, what's the guy supposed to do, go buy some chi-com US General or Craftsman boxes and hope his tools fit and the slides and welds hold out longer than two years? Remember, this is a pro tech, not some weekend wonder working out of the back alley. A pro's box takes much more abuse than the average Joe Blow's box does. Why do people always get caught up in the price then feel the need to post about it?

Anyway, to the OP, great choice. I love the setup.

+1!

OP: Great box and work tool collection. Thanks for sharing
