Most can get away with the 293pc assortment set just fine. Round overs and dados in Pine will likely never notice. Little fur or blowout, no biggie.

Some more premium brands like Whiteside, Freud, Amada, really shine with hardwoods and finer work.

It's also worth noting that there is nothing wrong with getting a budget friendly set of bits to start out. If you find that you use one enough to wear it out, you can replace just that one with a higher quality brand.

I have both the bosh colt and dewalt 611. I generally (always) grab the dewalt first.

As for bits, I've been happy with amana and cmt. At this point I only buy insert carbide rather than brazed carbide bits.
