Trip sensor for a stoplight

I have an old stoplight that flashes when plugged in. I would like it to turn on when my car reaches a certain point in the garage. Is there some type of sensor switch available for this?

You could use a photoeye and a reflector. Install could be as clean as you can make it.

Allen Bradley makes nice ones.

There are a multitude of ways to achieve what you are wanting to do. However once the light turns on then what? Will it stay on till you move the car out, turn it off manually, turn it off with a timer, do you want to be able to turn it on without the car being there? The thing needs to have all the variables and states defined then you look for a solution that will allow you to do what you want.

I could build something on the bench with motion detectors used in security systems, or with other switches, but something off the shelf might be the ticket; have you tried
