I had searched around and went round and round trying to find the lift to buy. Read a couple of opinions on spending more since it is a once in a lifetime purchase vs keeping costs down. I ended up with the Triumph NSS-8XLT (extra long and tall). It came from National Auto Tools which is local to me. The price was hard to beat considering places like Greg Smith have gone up on the Atlas by $600. I never did find a review on their 4 post setups, only on the 7,000lb 2 post lift. So I figured Id post a review in case it helps someone later.
The lift is an 8,000lb 4 post lift. Its the same basic lift as the Atlas, Direct, etc. I was told they are all basically the same lift with a few differences based on the company buying them. The NSS-8XLT is supposed to be the same design they have used for the last 20 years. The installer said that he's installed a lot of them and never has any trouble with them.
Steel - I think its plenty stout. Its a c-channel design unlike some of the 9k lifts with boxed columns. I figured if Bendpak uses c-channel, it cant be too bad. The ramps are nice and wide. My F250 had a couple tires hanging off by 1-2". Cables are supposed to be 14k lb cables. Pulleys are very smooth.
Paint/Powdercoat - Most of it looks great. It was all bubble wrapped when it got here. I think the scratches were more from the install than anything else. Nothing horrible though Im not very picky.
Power/Electrical - Its the normal cheaper Chinese hydraulic pump. I didnt seem to struggle at all with my F250 which is about 7,100lbs. Its a standard 120v plug and no popping of breakers. Its on a 20amp circuit.
Issues - no real issues that I know of from the lift standpoint. I do have to work on adjusting the cables though. When lifting the truck, the passenger front was a little slower to lift. The drivers side was almost at the next lock when the passenger was just locking. I also had trouble with the lock disengagement on the rear. The drivers rear lock didnt seem to be even either. When bring up the lift without any weight, all the locks seem to engage at the same time. Im sure a little up and down with a car on it and adjusting the cables will greatly help that issue.
So far so good. Time will tell though its the same lift many people here have. For $2200 for the lift and $400 installation, Im very happy with it. The Advantage or Bendpak was going to be close to $1000 more. While it is a heavier lift, Im just using it to store a couple Mustangs. The F250 was its maiden voyage and will probably be its last heavy lift.
