Troubleshoot Sioux Drill

Hello All--

I've got an older Sioux Close-Quarters drill (Model 1495). The thing won't power on, at all. I've done a bit of troubleshooting on my own but I'm not particularly clever with the best way to diagnose some electric stuff.

With a complete lack of function (rather than sporadic, or weak operation, etc) I suspected the power cord or switch. But with the drill apart I did a continuity test from the plug of the power cable to the point where the black lead connects to the brush "downstream" of the switch. This test shows continuity with the switch On and none with it Off. So I'm inclined to trust the cord and the switch.

What tests are next?? Can anyone tell me the tests to make with a multimeter to diagnose the armature, field, etc? Thanks so much for any help!

is it my eyes? or is the stator melted/fried up near the brushes?

HiPlainsDrifter. looking at your pictures I would suggest that the armature is burnt out, time for an overhaul..

Did you check both conductors on the cord? It's hard for me to tell from the pictures. Does one side of the cord connect to the switch and the other side to either the brushes or field coil?

Gotcha-- I'll take a closer look at the armature when I'm back with the drill. Away with work a couple days.
