Troubleshooting newer SPA motor, 2 speed, 240V

Hello

I have a SPA pump (230V, 2 speed motor 56 Frame, rated at "5.0hp") for which the high speed doesn't kick in anymore. It just runs on low speed.

It is a motor with barely 50 hours on it and the high speed simply stopped one day. No smell, no humming, no noise etc.. High speed just doesn't kick in.

So far, I verified that it is the motor that is faulty. If I swap the pump out of the SPA, the other motor runs fine.

Troubleshooting and questions:
- Would the motor run on low speed if the thermal overload was faulty? (I didn't test for continuity yet) but is it safe to assume the motor wouldn't work at all if the thermal overload was faulty?
- Start capacitor on top of motor (or run capacitor?) seems fine physically and measures as specified with a meter.
- Velocity switch electrically makes contact. Linkage seems to move freely and there is no evidence of any problems.
- The motor turns fine manually.

What are my next steps?

Hope someone can shed some light

Thank you

Need the motor wiring diagram it's either on or under wiring hookup. Thermal would have to be good for the motor to run.

See attached. The motor does run in low speed but unsure if the thermal has a low/high speed?

What changes the speed of the motor? At 1725/3450 RPM, it's a 2/4 pole motor. Some motors can reconfigure their poles for high/low speed. Other multi-speed motors have two completely separate winding. It's entirely possible your high speed winding is completely open circuit.

It seems the high speed winding has no continuity but the low speed winding does. Is this something that can be found visually? What would cause such a condition?

At 50 hours I would think you could get warranty replacement unless it has spend a lot of time not running and it's expired. Why aren't you doing that?
Warranty is expired. It had one year I believe and it is now 16 months approx.
Emailed support anyways, who knows.

If the motor was never overheated it may just be a bad connection. Check the connections to the windings on the connection terminals. You might get lucky and find it. Or the bad spot may be deep in the windings but with what you describe I think that is less likely.

I do not believe the motor overheated. How tough is the insulation on the wire? Looks like I have to cut the nylon rope and pull out the connection to the windings.

I found a local shop that diagnoses electric motor and provides free estimates to fix them. Thank you all for your help.
