I bought a used Troy Bilt generator for $100...……..missing some parts and trying to find them

Troy Bilt Model "030248" REV "02"

3,550 W / 5,250 W Generator

Powered by a Briggs & Stratton 7 HP OHV motor

I am looking for the part number for the air filter and the part number for the air filter cover

Also, what about an inline fuel filter? I cant tell if this generator had one. It looks like the fuel shut off valve has a filter built in?

I looked all over online and downloaded the manuals from Briggs...……….still cant find them...……...thanks

you probably want to figure out the model number of the engine. The part you listed is everything but the engine. The fiches online, and there are many, are showing every part but the engine assembly breakdown.

here is an owners and parts manual on it if you don't have it, but for the engine it just says contact engine manufacturer - so you will need the engine number off the engine itself.

You need to get the engine code and serial number. The Briggs & Stratton site will show you where to find the information. After that it is a matter of downloading the correct engine manual.

$100 sounds like a steal if you can get it going again.

Got it up and running this evening...….had to remove the carb and clean the inside

New plug, new oil, new gas tank mounting hardware, new fuel line, new air filter, new (used) air filter cover...…..and I added an inline fuel filter

Starts easy and runs great

Now...…….ONE last part to find. The lever (choke lever?) that attaches to the carb to move the blade is MIA

Bad part is...…….I have no idea what it looks like or the part number

Check the brushes for wear. I have a similar unit and when I got it the brush holder was melted and the brushes were shot. You got a good deal if you have it working now.

Looks pretty close to mine. I just pulled out an old laptop, but can't find the pdf to save my life! I think I might have just put the model number into the Troy Bilt website every time I needed it. I do know I'd reference it because I could never remember what oil to use

The engine model and serial number information are usually stamped on the sheet metal housing that goes around the flywheel. The gas tank may be obstructing your view.

That "style" of generator is remarketed under many different product labels. I have the "big brother", 6500/5000W 10 HP. Starts first or second pull every time even after sitting for several months !

TIP ! Never use the ON/OFF switch. Always turn the fuel off and let the carburetor run dry. If you don't use it regularly, every year or two, drain the tank and add new fresh fuel. If you do use it regularly, check the oil every time you refuel.

you need the engine model and serial to find things like your choke. Just an afterthought but if you rely on someone here to give you a part number based on their engine, and they are no longer around you won't be able to find the parts you need. Briggs has a lot of repair parts, and there are also bone yards for Briggs motors so new and used parts are available - but one needs the engine model and serial. The same device can have several different engines that came with it depending where it was sold and when it was manufactured.

Take a look at the choke lever on this engine. This should give you idea of what to look for. As was said earlier, looking the part number up based on your engine model and code is the best way.

I was told that the OHV motor serial number might also be on the side of the valve cover...…...need to check that today

I checked the OHV valve cover...……..and found what I hope is the serial number info:

I am leaning towards the "790630" lever
