I think T45 is referring to the fact that often these would be the same tool but with a MATCO name on the tool & packaging. But maybe these aren't even made by OTC and MATCO is reselling repackaged OTC. LOL.
At the other end of the scale, there are those Blue-Point machinists vises in the Snap-on catalog that say Wilton on them. Also the ball-joint master kit and hub grappler in the Mac catalog with the OTC manuals in the picture.
I don't know the answer, but I work in another industry and have opened case of product to find the packaging for 1 to all be the wrong one.. Sometimes it be all correct and one with a different name brand.. or a 50/50 mix or whatever.. it seems when they charge to another run for another "brand" they don't count off to fill a case.. and when one run stops and they need to fill the case and need a few more, opps the next branded packaging finishes off the case. We normally get hung with it.. or told keep it/them so they get sold..
My truck dealers sell lisle, OTC, Gearwrench etc. labeled as such. They don't claim it's "their" product, but they do offer warranty service on it. Basically the price is in line with MSRP, but sometimes it's competitive with Amazon.
I know this is not a great answer but the day you need it you will understand. I do alot of low voltage work and they always seem to try and fit 50 pounds of **** in a 5 pound box. These alow you to cut wire/zipties or crimp cables in very tight spots
Several years ago I bought a belt tension gauge from my Snap On guy. It had the SO number on the box but I opened it up and it has the OTC decal on it. It happens with a lot of things these days. I don't think it's a big deal.
I think it's a way for the fill in the blank tool truck to reduce costs. That simple decal listing the MATCO part number is a lot cheaper than paying OTC to stick MATCO's name on the crimper and then make MATCO packaging for it. Cornwell has been doing it for years.
Those offset jaw crimpers are pretty handy for under dash work.
My latest email advertising from Cornwell has the new Milwaukee M18 string trimmer in it, undisguised. Not the place I'd first think of if in the market for a string trimmer.
