Would like recommendations on a portable long handle scissor jack to replace the POS screw jack that came with my Canyon.

Need a good all weather/terrain jack with about a 5 foot collapsing or folding handle handle I can store behind the seat.

The only ones that I am aware of are the screw type....

Maybe check with an RV place. The have a larger selection of scissor leveling jacks that may work for you....

Screw that type of jack and buy a Hi-lift. Not only can you use it to change tires but I have used mine to pick up the back end of my truck and move it over, as a body work tool and if you have some rope or cable or chain with you as a winch.

Hi-Lift.... is that the same thing as (what they call) a farm jack?

Where would you lift a newer truck with a Hi-Lift though? They're good when you have those solid bumpers like the older jeeps and land rover defenders not for a nice truck with car like bumpers and body panels.

My initial thought also, but, I don't know if he's done any mods or not.
I would not trust lifting a corner from the factory tow hooks.

I haven't seen any screw/scissor jacks perhaps priate4x4.com forums might have some suggestions for stock trucks. I guess if it were me I'd probably supplement the stock jack with a tall enough bottle-jack that'll fit under the truck when the tires are deflated and lifts it up high enough to be comfortable.

Hi-Lift
Best jack for any truck.
There are accessories to use it for "normal" cars too.
Lift from the bumper or the tire.

It also doubles as a winch. :)
Mine is mounted on my rear bumper.

Yep the new Tacos are larger....
I would have gotten a mini, if they offered it in 4-door in the states.
The 2001, was the first time, that Toyota offered the Tacoma 4 door in the USA.

Thanks for the replies.

The POS jack that came with the Canyon is a poorly designed piece of junk, I called GM and told them so. I would like to see the idiot that designed this jack use it in the dark on an un-improved road on a rainy night. Took me 3 hours to rotate the tires on a beautiful day on a paved flat surface, about 90% of it positing the tiny jack. All I can say is good thing I didn't have a flat.

The Canyon jack base is no larger than the back of your hand. The top is about 50 cent piece size and it's supposed to go under the rear axle. Have to crawl under the truck to get the flat top squarely under the round axle. It has a Tiny yellow plastic wheel to raise and lower the mechanism, which you have to do by hand before inserting the whippy handle or the jack will tip/move out of alignment (as I quickly discovered).

Wanting something more reliable in case of a roadside emergency, so it has to also be small enough to fit in the truck cab, preferably behind the seat. Wishing I could find something like my old M151A3 had. The jack in my old Sonoma was great, & easy to use. Dunno what caused GM to drop something that worked for the current POS.

Guess I'll keep looking, again thanks all !
