Truck tie strap rating (& chains)

Going through the garage today looking for the chains, I rediscovered a truck tie strap I had. What would its rating be if not damaged, and how much has the damage affected it? It is 2" wide.

As far as the chains go, my mic measurements are off from the charts so I'll assume they are 5/16 regular (1900#) and 1/8 regular (400#), both Grade 30.

Unmarked straps are allowed 1000 lbs for each inch of width.

Unmarked chains are given a WLL equal to grade 30. So your numbers are correct.

Do use a favor and toss that strap in the trash. New ones are dirt cheap.

This is why I belong to gj. I never knew that about the unmarked straps, but now I'll never forget.

I use those types of straps in my job ( moving and storage ) that size strap is usually rated for 3300 lbs. your strap needs to be put out of service ( aka scrapped ) as it is no longer safe.

They call straps "synthetic webbing". All tie down rules defer to FMCSA. When the cop writes you a ticket, those are the rules he is citing.

That chain is good to give a kid to lock up his bicycle with . The strap needs cut in to short pieces and disposed of the ratchet also should be tossed. Grade 70 or higher is what is used in tie down. Some of the trucks in our fleet have grade 100 chains on them and some 120 in the recovery trl.

Grade 70 is good for tie downs since you get a little more WLL. But, there is no law requiring it. In the case of 1/2 chains, grade 43 and 70 are really close in capacity, but the price difference can be large.

Grade 80 or stronger is required for lifting if you are subject to OHSA.

Thank you. I've recently acquired a Ag tractor and trailer that can haul it. So I'm looking to keep out of trouble.

The smaller chain is actually 3/8 regular, not 1/4. They'll be used for skidding logs. A youtuber called Wranglerstar does a lot of homestead/logging/etc vids and he uses pieces of old firehose for little projects. Maybe my webbing can be repurposed.
