Hard cold winter caused a couple of busted pipes and valves that I had to replace. Won't be able to run water in winter again until I insulate and heat the shop.

I finally hired a guy to come put a spring on my garage door. Now it can be opened and closed, even if by hand.

Later in the spring after a couple of non passes for some things that previously passed on the electrical ...frustrating when different inspectors interpret things differently. I had to rewire some stuff with bigger boxes, but finally passed inspection so building is complete as far as the county is concerned.

After inspection I finished the other wall. Now I have plenty of outlets down both sides of the shop.

This spring I spent a bunch of money and bought 13 8-10 Leyland Cypress trees. This was for my bitchy neighbor, in order to block the view of the shop. these will get about 30 ft tall and 8-10 ft around. Should almost be a wall once grown and they grow up to 3ft a year. I strategically placed some in the front yard to block the view from the street. Even with this though, they continue to ***** to the county. They even wrote a letter full of lies about us and what we own and do...apparently according to my neighbor I have a business fixing cars because I had some folks over (jeep buddies) and they all had their hoods up!! I have military vehicles to include a rocket launcher (which would be completely illegal so that is ridiculous). I'm now under extreme microscope by the county for everything I do, just because of 1 bitchy neighbor even though I've done everything above board and legit.

So the shop is now working and I never got a chance to get organized, still haven't. I got the air compressor running (120 gal, 5hp, 180psi, 220v) and the electrical with the welder allowed me to work and get the jeep ready for nationals. Had to give it a good clean up because.......

Whoohoo!!!

Got the lift installed the other day!!! Huge milestone as this shop was built primarily to have this lift.

So this is where we are today. Still have a lot to do (insulate walls, install gas line, install heater, build work bench, figure out stairs to the loft, and ORGANIZE!!!

Brother I feel your pain with the neighbor. I think every neighborhood has one. The garage is ugly but you did the right thing by putting in the trees to help block the view.

Good for you! Lots of hard work stretched out over a period of time, but it's come together nicely. Soon, very soon, it looks like you'll be all done with it and be able to enjoy it liket you should. Congrats!

Good job on your shop. I did a lot of work at my house/garage in the past. When I found a shop to lease I jumped on it. It's outside the city limits, I can park anything there, and dis-charge firearms/fireworks anytime. The owner is very cool.:)

Truck, the shop is really coming together nicely. I understand the county issues. I'm close to being done w/mine. The city is a whole lot of fun to deal with. I don't have neighbors to deal with. The nearest is about 1/4 mile away. I would tell my neighbors to pound to sand. If you keep your place nice, and it looks like you do, tell'em to get a freakin hobby. Again, shop is looking great.

Deal is, I bend over backwards to help folks. I don't mind lending a hand on projects, lend out tools, help fix their vehicles, plow their driveways, deliver wood during power outage, cut up fallen trees and limbs, etc. I've done this for my friends and plenty of neighbors on my street. My direct neighbors would have been no different if they hadn't been asshats about this whole thing. From the beginning I told them exactly what I was doing. They have not spoke to me about it once (too cowardly) only direct to the county. At this point I wouldn't cross the street to help them. I hate to be that way but they have cost me a lot of money, stress and time. The county inspector and I are on a first name basis and they scrutinize everything I do.

I think they thought because I was in the military they could wait me out, but after 24+ years in the Air Force I've decided to take a promotion to "Mr." and retire....so we will be here awhile. ***** for them ;-).

..... sorry Rant Off..

I'm working on posting some pix. I didn't know that you're in the Air Force.
My goddaughter is in Virginia on the USS Eisenhower in an E-2 squadron. I was in the Navy years ago. Thanks for your service.
