So I stopped by the pawn shop on my way home from work this afternoon. Found this 1/4 inch drive Truecraft flex ratchet still in the original package. Took it up to the counter and asked how much. Guy says $7.95 just like is says on the sticker. I said how about 5 bucks. The old guy who runs the shop is pretty reasonable about prices. So for 5 bucks why not. After I got it home and opened it up I realized that I got a pretty good deal. Ratcheting action is smooth. All of the flex detents lock up tight. Has a good overall feel to it.

Cheers.

Never saw one like that, they normally had a craftsman rp ish handle. I'm betting made in Japan. I would date it to late 80's to early 90's.

LOLZ. Yep. Stamped Japan on back side of handle in his second or third pic.

That was my guess too.

I have the same one. I think it was made by Daido. I like it alot, the flex detents work really good. They make them in 3/8 and 1/2 too. Although I'm not sure I see the need for a 1/2 stubby flex. The 1/4 versions sell pretty good on ebay too. Nice score.

Daido was the company that owned and marketed Truecraft when the OP's ratchet was sold, but all the tools were produced under contract for Daido by other companies.

I have a good number of Truecraft tools. They're good quality, but Daido has discontinued the brand, so don't abuse it and break it because there's no warranty anymore.

Japanese companies like SEK and Top made some of them. Others were made in the USA by Danaher and others.

The OP's ratchet was made by SEK (Suekage Tool).

They still make many of the tools that were sold under the Truecraft brand. You can find the catalog on the site I posted. Here's a link to part of the catalog with ratchets. You'll see some very similar ratchets to the one posted by the OP:

Here's a thread with more Truecraft info and pics:

I was really surprise when looking at Pa's pipe wrenches, he has a rigid and truecraft 14 inchers and they are identical. Never new before that day that truecraft rebadge rigid pipe wrenches.

 That's all factual statements there.

You can also include Ko-ken as another Japanese brand Daido contracted.
