I have an older Craftsman 1948 bench grinder, 115.6965
Any with one of the old grinders know how to true the wheels. I am getting some vibration when I run the grinder and would like to address this issue.

I have tried a dressing tool and a diamond point tool, locked down in a vice w/the grinder clamped down. This hasn't worked.

Any suggestions?

While someone may have a better way to true the wheels, the vibration may be coming from an internal balance problem. Older stones can get out of balance internally, and dressing them true may not solve the problem.

I take you don't know the age of the stones, put new ones on for safety.
Check for a bent arbor and bad bearings.

Check for wobble in the wheels and use pieces of tape to shim the wheels to run true. It only takes a little bit of wobble to shake a grinder.

I've had good luck with Weiler stones. I tried the trash from Home Depot and the grinder danced like a ho on Miami Beach doing a booty-twerk.

If you have not already, you could try loosening the nut, rotating the stone a little and re-tighten. You may have to do this several times. Although it may not help, this is about the only other thing I know to try, after you did what Larry said.

Ok, I will admit that these could easily be original stones. I got the grinder from my Dad. I don't think he is the original owner. I think he got it at a garage sale in the early 70s. But I can attest that these stones are at least that old.

Spindles are straight, bearings fine.

The stones are definitely wobbling.

Personally I would just get new stones. Here's an article on ring testing for soundness.

Sorry, I was going to mention that I have done a ring test, and they are both good.
Actually, did it twice, once when I got the grinder, then I read to put some, (ack, can't think of the correct terminology) blotters for cushioning. I cut out cardboard from cereal boxes. Did a second ring test then.

You are the second to mention getting new stones.
Any recommendations on where to buy?

Re-read #5. You also should be asking, "what to-buy?" I tried HD Avanti, and they were so-poor, I immediately took them back, real trash for vibration. A good find for a ***** housewife, probably.

The internet.
