Truss Ceiling Paint Question

I would like to paint the ceiling truss system in my garage. I have borrowed my buddies Titan Airless sprayer. Never used an airless before any suggestions.
Should I use the Kilz or Bullseye?
If I apply this myself I would imagine to backroll the material it should still be wet. Or is it even necessary?
Should I apply a semigloss as my second coat and not worry about the back roll?

I have no experience with the Bullseye but I have used oil-based Kilz.

Seeing the OSB, I'm going to guess that you'll need two coats of primer to get good coverage as it'll soak into the OSB. Once that is dry, I'd put a coat of whatever for a top coat. The house garage walls, I used an exterior paint for a little extra protection since it's not a conditioned space.

When I painted my basement, I just sprayed directly over everything. Didn't use a primer or anything. That being said, it was black so coverage was easy.
May not be the case with white tho. I think with a sprayer, it will probably work.
Let us know how it turns out

I ordered 2 5 gallon pails of the oil Kilz so next week I’ll pull out the Titan Airless and give it a whirl. You might be more familiar with Zinsser, I just referred to it due to the bullseye on the can. The Zinsser was totally expensive and the Kilz has worked well for me before.

It's exposed trusses in a garage ceiling, not the Mona Lisa. Two light passes with Killz should do it. Don't go heavy / wet or your OSB will lift and look like ****.

A friend borrowed my Graco to spray oil based paint and failed to clean the filter in the gun handle. This was a mess and basically ruined the gun.

While you can spray oil based paint, why would you on the inside? I would shoot a mid to good quality latex interior/exterior semi-gloss and be done with it. Use a paint product with the "built in " primer and if you need a second coat put it on. No need to back roll...

I’m going to check out the machine before I get started. My buddy is a great guy but his maintenance on equipment leaves something to be desired. I plan on returning it in as good or better shape than when I started.
The reason I choose oil was I thought there would be less chance of the OSB lifting. Another fellow I know had the lifting problem using water based primer but he may have did one heavy coat instead of 2 lighter coats.

With you spraying you're going to put down a lot less than rolling/brushing (which I imagine is what he did). 2 light coats will dry fast and really shouldn't effect the osb. I'd go for the latex just because that oil is going to be a PITA to clean up after and the fumes ****.

I got at it today. Put up about 9 gallons of Kilz oil primer and covered about half my ceiling, I thought that should do the job, guessed wrong. Bought a Titan 1500 airless sprayer and broke it in on this job. Borrowed scaffolding from my carpenter buddy had the 3M respirator, Tyvek coveralls and an old set of sneakers that have been resoled with multiple layers of primer.

The Nitrile gloves were a PITA, what do you guys use?

I’m just wrecked and my head is pinging a little bit, the respirator is also kind of a PITA. Should have listened to Hotrod about the water based primer. Thought the oil would work well on the OSB, too many corners on the trusses over spray was inevitable. Did a little brush work as I went.

To hell with it for now I’m going to the lake and see what I can ****** up there.
Have a great weekend everyone.
