Has anyone modified or removed trusses? Ok, before someone tells me it's a no, no..... I already have read enough to know not to cut trusses, without an engineers redesign & stamp. So with that said I have a tremendous area (22'x48') above my garage which is just killing me as such wasted space. Lord knows we always need more storage and room in our garages, thus I'd love to know of anyone's venture down this road!

So what are looking to do ? Make another room over garage or just make more headroom in your garage. Either way sounds like you have it handled get a engineered redesign and go from there. Not easy so make it worth to you and the resale of your house.

22 ft is a long ways for a floor storage area without seriously deep beams. If you placed floor beams across there you might have fitting problems on the ends. If you cut them to fit you will lessen the strength. Altering that space for storage will be an expensive proposition. Will you have enough headroom? The inner braces of truss will always be a PITA too.
