I want to span 32' to support a mezzanine that will be 12' wide. I would like to do this without a support post holding it up. The mezzanine will be for a Mother in law apartment in a shop I am building. Does anyone have a design in either manufactured wood products or steel?

Call your local truss manufacturer. They should have span tables for their products or an engineer on staff to help you get what you need. For steel you would need to probably hire a local engineer.

A steel W beam or a big *** glue lam beam. Contact a engineer to size the beam. He/she will ask what tributary and live loads will be involved so have the plans.
