We’d like to offer a new three or four pack of hammers on our website. What should we offer? If you could have only three or four of our hammers in your toolbox/garage/service vehicle/man cave what would be these hammers? Why?

We’ll call this new hammer set the Garage Journal Forum Set or something similar on our website. We discount all multipacks, and we’ll post a code in the forum for members to get an additional discount on the set.

We’ll solicit feedback in this thread for a couple of weeks. We’ll then present an option or two or three for the new set, as well as the copy to go with the set. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks.

26oz DB BP
43oz DB BP
50oz DB BP flat/flat
45oz Dead Blow.

Those are the most commonly used for day to day that I've seen, and those are all the ones I've been dying to buy from you guys. Next sale for sure.

I use my 18 oz Model S1 and 53 oz Model 4 the most.

If you guys made a lighter-than-26 oz ball peen hammer, I'd order one in a minute.

A combination of those three would be my ideal kit.

That is awesome and we really appreciate both your support of this forum and the fact that you make excellent quality tools in the USA. I am currently good on hammers (I paid full price) but would appreciate a screaming deal on the deadblow extension when you figure it out and start production.

I have a sickness called" Hammerosis" you know owning more then what you see in any hardware store hammer display.

Anyhow it kills me if I am missing anything that makes up a complete set, so if you put anything thing together make it a complete set of all sizes, or all of the same color, or all dead blows, etc.

26 oz Flat-Flat Dead Blow – Model TC26BPF
43 oz Ball Peen Dead Blow – Model TC43BP ("stubby")
26 oz Soft Face Slimline Dead Blow – Model S3
45 oz Soft Face Dead Blow – Model 3

These are my most used hammers in my race shop and at the track. I use the flat-flat for general hammering and with punch/chisels/whatnot, the stubby ball peen for serious hammering like knocking suspension components loose and bending/straightening thick metal, the Model 3 for hammering sheet metal or knocking around things I don't want to dent up, and the Model S3 for that fine work...you know, give it a little tap tap taparoo

I'd go with the S1/S2, A Stubby BP, Model 3, and either the Mini-Max or BB64:

... and of course the Deadblow Extender!

Goes from "tap it in" through to "beat it in".

I don't care much which hammers you decide on - I'll buy the set anyway - but maybe include a red, white and blue hammer in there?

I agree with this.
I just recently looked at your hammers for a 16oz. If you had them and they were in set of DB-BP I would have bought a set.

My ideal would be 16, 26, 43, all DB-BP.

They DO have a 16oz - it is numbered the TC26BP (total weight, not head weight). I have a TC BP16 (green, too) from before they changed the numbering that is identical to my TC26BP - both are 26 oz total weight.

Not sure why they changed the numbering to be different than everyone else - its confusing.

Coincidentally, I was going to order more Trusty Cook this morning. Looks like I'll have to stop procrastinating because this is fate

Be great if it would include the dead blow extender.

I'd like a couple of BP hammers in maybe 32oz and something else and a 43 flat-stubby dead-blow - also if they weren't red, that would be awesome! I came very close to buying the 32oz branded Carlyle as I like the colour.

I did not know that! Thanks -- gotta run -- I have a hammer to order.

One of the owner's of Trusty-Cook considers the S3 to be one of our most versatile hammers.

We used the head weight in the part number to satisfy some old GSA requirement. We had many confused customers. A person would call to order our 16 oz or 24 oz ball peen, and we'd say we didn't make one. The customer would refer to the part number--TCBP16--and say tell us we did make a 16 oz BP. We would then explain the hammer was 26 ounces and the head weighed 16 ounces. Yes, it can be confusing.

Yeh, I was one of those that asked "where did the TCBP16s go because I want another". Never got an answer, either.

I think now you have many confused customers. Every other main manufacturer (Estwing, Proto, Vaughan, etc) I'm aware of specifies head weight, not total weight. A convention that probably dates back to the dark ages, even.

If you made framing hammers, for example, and called a 20 oz head a TCFH32 (or whatever), you'd never sell any as framers traditionally buy based on head weight - they'd just laugh assuming a 32 oz (head weight) framing hammer is useless.

You should at least list the head weight, in addition to the total weight, on the web site given the arcane part numbers. That would give people a reference to all the other brands out there that use head weight.

I’m not much in the way of actual metal fabrication so I’m more interested in a 3 piece set of flat-flat dead blow ball peens with an additional add-on set offered to complete the full set. This way I could get a full set without having to purchase all at once. I’d also like to see a 12 oz. head flat-flat made along with that dead blow extender I missed out on.

Mine are:

13 Oz. soft face dead blow model 0 (I use it around the shop for all sorts of "fine adjustments"
26 Oz. soft face dead blow model 2
43 Oz. flat flat dead blow model TC43BPF "stubby"
Mini Max (don't know the number)

I also like the red white and blue thought.. but can live with any really...

Thanks Richard..

I'm ready to buy some hammers. Is the GJ set available yet and if so, which hammers did you decide on? I will go with the cheaper of the set or the equivalent blemish hammers.

We have yet to decide on the GJ set. The GJ set will have a ball peen or flat-flat hammer included. The steel-faced hammers are not available as blems.

I think it was Mr. Strouty who once accused me of a hammer tease, but I would never do such a thing. Perhaps we should wait until our new model comes out before we settle on the Forum Four-Pack?

The ones already chosen looks like a damn good start! A limited edition GJ TC hammer set packaged in a soft foam EVA TC labled tray would be magic. An EVA tray that keeps your basic 4 hammers organised that will sit straight into a tool chest draw could be the value adding factor that increases sales. Limited edition storage tray TC labeled with model description next to each cut out. Now which tool nut would'nt buy that! Thanks again for engaging with the forum and making such nice tools.

This thread is of interest to me. Doesn’t seem as if Mac Tools can keep a sales guy more than a week around here and haven’t seen one in years. My not so trusty Mac hammer has continued to disintegrate and make a mess in one of my two triple bank Macsimizer boxes.

I’ll put together my favorites as well and replace some junk.

Why choose the mini-max or Buddy Blaster 64. We're beginning to lean toward the mini-max ourselves.

With the Mini-Max you get more oomph for a similarly sized hammer. It's not much longer than the BB as far as clearance / swinging room, though the head is a lot bigger. The BB is cool because it's unique and a Buddy Blaster(and it provides white for a stars and stripes hammer theme). I've used the MM a handful of times knocking off seized/stuck on brake rotors and it's perfect for that. I'd probably lean towards it as well over the BB for your set.

I’ve been meaning to order some hammers from you for a while a multi pack is just what I need especially if it’s geared toward mechanical work and wood work.
