Trusty-Cook, New Tool or Extender Redesign?

We were talking about the dead blow extender the other day, and this concept came out of the discussion. We never discussed the concept, but our engineer acted on his idea. Here're the results.

The smallest is four pounds, just under 16.00” long, and the width of the head is 2.75”. The handle is a shortened sledge handle and is textured. The different lengths could be useful. The heads are the same on all three prototypes. Thoughts?

I would buy that extender, perfect for hitting obscured objects or directing force in a small area. Driving in a CV joint for instance.

It would be nice to have one with a much larger head and weighing about 15 pounds and a few feet of handle for hitting around the tires of my Super Duty that get stuck on no matter if they are torqued right or have anti-seize on them. I currently use a 12 pound sledge hammer or 6x6 block of pressure treated wood and hit all around the tire until it pops loose.

Yup, but our version is a bit heavier than the typical carving mallet. I need to get a few of these into some hands.

I showed up at my shop this morning and there was a box next to my door.........

The packing slip says thumper - modified extender prototype.

Looks like it could be very useful, will have to try it out, no other tool quite like it.

It is the 7 pound one, out a model three next to it for size reference.

I think the medium one would be a useful tool to have in a bigger truck. It could be used as a tire thumper, as well as a general pounding tool.

Similar to the linear sledge...I’d simply call it the “Side Sledge.”

I was talking to my wife last week while working on a buddy’s 2009 Accord. I was replacing the CV axle seal and reiterated how I wish I had a dead blow extender to help drive the seal in flush. She agrees with the logic of having the right tool for the job.

As far as the new product goes, I’d be down for a three pack and worry about finding a use later. I guarantee uses will pop up immediately.

As far as I can tell...neither; it’s more like churning butter violently haha...or violently and horizontally if needed lol.

We would use that every day at the shop. In fact we could use 4 of them right now and I'd supple all of my guys with the dead blow extender. Beats using a block of wood or piece of aluminum rod that we've been using while driving in toggle pins.

I'm going to correct you and say a couple of years for the extender. We do have a company working on a mold for the extender. The new thumper surprised me when it landed on my desk in the office.
