This came in from the plant the other day. Somebody apparently needed a gavel, and this hammer is the result. It's a pretty beefy gavel. I should have a handful of these to give away as Christmas presents. Anybody interested in giving us some feedback? I know that we have some fans of the stubby ball peens and flat-flat hammers.

Thanks.

That’s awesome. I can think of a lot of uses for it. Would love to give it a shot and give feedback on it.

By the way that truck in your avatar is so cool.

I don't like how the non-marring face has a larger diameter than the hammer body. I see that as a part that can interfere with nearby work surfaces if you are using the steel faced side.

If the steel striking face was the largest face, I think it would be cool to use, even better, both faces the same diameter.

I love the flat-flats and I think having one coated side and one metal-face side would be awesome, but I do agree with DSLTRK's sentiments about how the 'gavel' side sticks out too much.

Short handled hammers are much neglected at present.

The British manufacturer Brades used to offer short handled ball pein hammers as standard, and they were often preferred over the regular length. In mechanics work you’re often limited in space so the shorter swing is an advantage!

That one looks a little unusual, but that’s not an issue if it works!

I didn’t know you had stubby ball pein’s in your lineup - I’ll be checking those out!

eiI think it's a terrific idea. It's pretty common for me to have a ball pein
and a soft hammer both at hand.

I love that style hammer. I use this one all the time and could see a short one to be handy...

(holding up great by the way)

I could see that working quite well for quite a few different things around the farm. Use a stubby flat/flat everyday. Typically reach for the stubby before the long handled versions every time.

Your hammers are superb, they are one of an ever dwindling amount of tools that I don't ever have thoughts of moving into the Snap-on line for. They fit the hand perfectly with the right balance, and just plain take a beating as a hammer should.

I'd love to review one but, I'm not sure I do enough wrenching to be a great reviewer. However, I can get one into the hands of an officer of the court if you want some feedback as to how it works as a gavel.:bounce:

I could certainly put it through it’s paces. I love the short heavy flat flat I have now.

But I want them to match.

How about some early feedback? Could you put a metal striking cap in the end of the handle. I could get some use out of that.

I would like to give one of those a workout and return with proper feedback. That size would be used on a regular basis by me.

That looks like the ideal hammer I've been looking for to add to my "road box". Having both a dead blow mallet and a steelhead in one tool saves a lot of valuable space. Others I've seen have a much larger soft end, too big for my shallow drawers. I've looked thru your site and have not seen this style. Is there a possibility it may be a regular cataloged item?

Do they still look that good?

Some of the green ones still look pretty good because they are not used in greasy environments, the blue ones have had most of the use for sure. If I had to only have one hammer, it would be the stubby flat flat.

Honestly the hammer this thread is about looks like one of the most useful hammers I have seen.

What I would like to see is that hammer with a ball pein end on the bottom of the handle so you could use it in tight quarters to strike straight down on something. That would give you three options with one hammer.

I'll answer the questions about weight and dimensions once I have one in hand again. I should have a handful of these tomorrow or the next day.

The stubby hammers, ball peen and flat-flat, are popular. I'm not sure if this version of the stubby will end up on production, though.

Thanks, hammers made in USA. I really appreciate the answer to my question. I am using a smartphone with a cracked screen so the pics are not very good.
