That's not a snap on box, it's a harbor freight box. $379 retail.

yeah there's one of those listed on Chicago CL too but the seller put S/O emblems on his; at least he admits that it isn't a true S/O box though.

Maybe I am missing something here, but where in that ad does the seller claim it is a SO box?

i believe the OP is saying with a HF box you can buy new and flip and double your money... that cant be done with a snapon...

I own a few Snapons and a both the 41" and 56" HF boxes... HF is a good value, but you get what you pay for... My Snapon is better built but i couldnt justify the cost new for all the storage i have/need in my garage/shop

This is my point too in this argument. I have some snapon stuff and its great, there are a few pieces I would have a hard time parting with, they are a known value and been with me a long time, still service worthy.

The Lincoln buzz box was cheap, the AC/dC machine is a bit more money but its cheap, it works really good, last a long time, aint real big but thats noit as big a drawback as one might think, same for the 211 everyone gushes about. Now the Chinese produce an inverter nearly as good as the DC buzzer but uses 30% the power weighs 15# and cost less, dual voltage, run a 1/8 6011 on a 20A circuit.

You can buy a bad hand tool today but you got to work at it. I did see one of those 40 pc socket sets back in the day were 5$ in Kmarts or Grants etc, used to see them in flea mts, for years they were 5 and I did see one for 10 the other day in a Sears store and it was kind of adjacent to the tool isle.

There is a reason those things have went away, its just junk and its obvious for another couple of dollars and for a few more a store doesn't need to have extra stock, failures etc over this product when they can now be a serious vendor of a quality product. Granted B&D make some real junk, in there are some good products and in some sense even the junk is priced right by warranty by a diligent consumer especially if one lives close to store etc.

The Asians make lots of end wrenches like we do and several brands shipped here with lots of names etc. I think the Stanley is a blank grabbed right off the line with the rest of them for the most part, steel making technology is so good that it doesn't even make sense to track with some sets of numbers. I got an adjustable from,,don't remember but also have 1 10 inch Snappie, beautiful chrome but if I look close I can see the extra buffing that went in to the web, some one picked It off, walked over to a wheel and worked on it before it went to plating. Its a spitting Crescent or Diamond, don't remember which, it did have extra work but the regular trade level finish wrench works as good, in fact I like it better because its cheaper.

I picked up a set of ATD, 4 pc up to 12 I think, it was under 20$ and I had intended to tool box them in tractors etc but from the start the stuff easily mixed with our other wrenches, lots of the majors, when I got it I admired it but as busy and never give it much of a thought, how good can it be when the brand is inked on etc. It was later I looked closer, they never did cheapen this wrench, I bet its sold world wide under lots of brands. Its a super tool, in fact the 12 inch is better, the jaw opens one size wider, I got it and 3 other successive smaller ones for half the cost of the 12 brand off the shelf. Only reason I can tell which is which anymore is the ink faded and they are the only generic units in the bunch.

I hadn't paid much attn to individual tools, was too busy to notice all that stuff leaped, you can find a 2 or 3 dollar small crescent at a flea but its obvious as daylight but for 5 can get a world class tool. If I buy from those places I try to pick decent items, after a bit can get a grip. I bought a "good" straight line sander, wish I would have took a shot at the flea mkt with import from a vendor that returns there every year, I took something back with a problem just for giggles a year later, no problem sir fix you right up.

Back to boxes, that box would be on my short list today if I had to get my stuff off the floor. Aint no point in building a 5000$ shed to store a 500$ combine.

In your garage, how many cycles a day do even a few drawers get? Never wear it out. Its affordable.

End wrenches, boxes,,, its all the same question expecially when the difference in cost is 10X or more. How much does each weigh, how many dollars a pound etc, ha Anyone that has ever built a tool box might say its worth it against a 7 ot 8 grand box but for 400 no way, not even the paint and finish time in a real shop.

I would like to hear the argument,,, I am too cheap to buy a HF box so I will build my own ha.. That resale thing says it all, but as a user it wouldnt be much of a factor in decision to buy, you worry about resale on an 8K box but again,,,, 400, Evn if you were out by 50% in depreciation over night you only lost 200$ and as a bonus,,, it works.

You think, everyone wonders why the Ameican econemy is in the toilet, about half of it is simple math and the other half is people that know better pulling the wool over the other half and got them believing the math is good for them despite reasonable doubt.

I am talking to a generation that needs tobe smarter and can think vs being polishers and collectors. For a kid, get a box you can carry around and toss in trunk with a few simple things as needed, If I am hiring someone green last thing unlss he was gifted is him moving in lock stock and all. If I want him here the last thing I care about is some shiney **** he has to fuss over, the swelling from the knot caused by the rap from a crecent wrench will subside.

The learning curve is high, in short order we will build a 400$ collection vs 4K, if he wants to spend big later fine but dont care for the distraction while learning to use the stuff.

I got a couple friends from out of town got the travel box and a jack, I give up on hiring them partly due to tools, they gonna bring all thier own stuff which looks like my stuff that they do not realize know one but them knows the difference, ha. My secretary likes to change her own oil, I finally get to her she doesnt have to bring floor jack from home and a couple boxes of tools.

My friends came the other day to do clutch job, seal etc and didnt bring a single tool.

Some of the logic apparently is escaping me. You can find an idiot willing to buy a HF box for double its new price, but you cant find a similar idiot for a SO box? Why not?

I see SO boxes and tools sell for more than new regularly, usually at auctions where people get caught up in their own bs.

I just pick a thread to babble on about, about 90% is about the same 10% anyway, I read a few that interest me, follow one or 2 all day usually about value questions every day. I got to ask when I am familiar with a subject, does his opinion match mine, is his experience the same or far different or is it an emotionl pitch?

Old coworker, had a older craftsman professional box, 54". Took off the craftsman emblem, stuck on a Matco emblem and got $1500 trade from the Mac truck.... It was classic!

I just read on another forum...
"So this clown comes on my truck wanting to trade a Craftsman box with a Matco badge on it, I marked up the Mac $2000 and offered him $1500 for his trade and the maroon fell for it"

LOL, just kidding!

nice, have you noticed the CL around here has every tool or toolbox at retail if not marked up 120%, this is crazy, if anyone in the STL area wants a tool and feels like they need to pay 150% for it, let me know, ill even deliver it to you

Or the same douchebag that posts all the tools for sale on XXXX west outer road or whatever the hell it is. Thats annoying as hell.

You should ask him if he knows where you can get more. Tell him you need 2 and your brother wants one. See if he offers to get a couple more.
