I own the Grey set and primarily choose it because of my Matco guy having them as an option. I've never had an issue with one. Years or reliable service.

I have no experience with the Grey sockets, but really like the stuff I have from Sunex (misc sockets and a set of impact adapters).

If you're planning on going for a full set of quality impact sockets without the Snap-On cost, this Ingersoll Rand set is what I went with for 1/2" & 3/8". Used daily tearing into trucks and equipment with no issues at all, made in Taiwan.

Gearwrench impacts are also good quality, I have their 1/4" drive set, and use the swivels all the time.

Sunex has a more liberal warranty policy, they will directly deal with the customer with their own customer service dept.; while, Grey Pneumatic does not (only through their authorized dealers). Something to think about. I have Grey and they have worked well for me.

I have the grey and they are fantastic(never broke one yet), but I must take them back to the place I bought them for any replacement. If you buy them over the web not sure how that one works for replacement.

I don't use the sunex but I have also heard wonderful stories about them so no matter how you go you will be ok.

I have a set of 20-36mm sunex impacts and theyre great, great price and the finish on them is still in great shape. definitely on my shortlist next time i want to add to my box and dont want to get spendy. The tolerance around the bolt heads are nice and tight, only slightly off from my snappy sets.
Ive only used the grey ones a few times, fit was really nice, seemed like a high quality but had somewhat of a crusty, chalky finish on them. Both are pretty good deals and i wouldnt have an issue relying on either brand.

If I'm not mistaken, many of their sets are exactly the same (just re-branded). I would guess quality is identical on these. Both are superb choices though, but Sunex warranty is probably a little easier to obtain.

Horse a piece, whoever offers the better set option. I have a ton of sunnex sockets I used daily, 0 problems.

Sunex it is then. I sort of figured they would be pretty much the same quality. I was just worried about wall thickness and how their swivel impacts are.

I have the grey set and have broken about three or four sockets, that being said I would go with sun due to warranty to the regular customer.

Now as far as the grey swivels breaking, I use them alot and the pins like to break under a heavy beating and knowing this you need to go with the better warranty.

There are pros and cons to Sunex and Grey Pneumatic.

Sunex is much more easy/liberal on warranty. Plus their super adapters are lifetime warranty as well, while GP does not warranty their adapters.

But...from what I've seen is that GP is a tad bit stronger then Sunex. Not by leaps and bounds, but they are a bit stronger.

Both are pretty decent on having single or open stock sockets.

Just bought some Sunex and Grey individual sockets from Tooltopia to finish out a set. Have not used either. Both are chrome-moly construction. The Sunex has a flat black finish while the Grey has more of a shiny enamel finish.

Grey for about 15 years 3/8, 1/2 sets shallow, deep, and swivel. I never have had a failure.
Grey all they way!

Holy ****! I never looked at sunex sockets but ive been starting to look around at different inexpensive yet quality stuff for the house. Never knew the sunex were so good and cheap. Tooltopia has shallow sets for 18 and deep sets for 27. Works for me.

 thanks GJ

One question though. If my independent tool truck has GP sockets and I buy them on the net, Cant I just get them warrantied through him?

some things you just can't screw up. An impact socket is an impact socket.

:lol_hitti

you need more experience in general.

That all depends on the dealer. In my experience most would but, I think it's kinda ****** to save 20 or 30 dollars and expect someone else to perform You a service. It's just like most of us if a customer brings in their own used starter and it doesn't work are you going to stand behind it? I believe that is one of he issues with not being able to find educated sales associates. So many take advantage of the free knowledge just to turn to the Internet to save a few dollars. That knowledge and experience has to be worth something.

I have some from both. Quite frankly they are pretty much the same as far as quality. However like others have mentioned sunex is easier to work with if you ever do need to have anything warrantied. Another thing that bugs me about grey pneumatic is the sizes are not stamped on the socket so if the laser etching wears off you cant really tell what size it is.

Surprised I didn't get beat to this but the only REAL difference I've ever noticed is Sunex embosses the size onto the socket and laser etches it, whereas GP only etches it.
