I am building a 30x40 by 10 ft tall. I am trying to decide what my best bet would be for heating a cooling it. I am mostly going to be doing car stereo installs in it so I would prefer it be comfortable. I live in northwest Tennessee. In other words it’s HOT in the summer and cold in the winter. I would like a unit that both heats and cools. The building is going to be well insulated with insulated doors and windows. The floor will be concrete poured 4” thick. And advice would be great.

I have a package unit for the house and like it because for one thing everything is outside including the noise. I would think that it might be safer also since it wouldn't have the flame if using gas for a ignition source inside the garage. It also leaves more room inside. The only thing I don't like is that the filter is outside on mine. However if you could make it so that you could have the filter in the return duct and change it inside it would solve that problem.

I'd look into an inverter type mini-split system. Efficient heat and a/c with no loss of floor space. Otherwise stick an 80% gas furnace and a/c coil in the attic space.
