Hey Folks. I'm trying to find out if a tstat exists that has something like a circulate or freeze protect mode. The situation is at a home that is not occupied daily. It is heated with baseboard hot water(no glycol). My concern is, being in the northeast, that if the zone was to go for an extended period of time without calling for heat it has the potential to freeze being on exterior walls. I'm looking for a tstat that could programmably be set to circulate the zone for a short period of time at a prescribed interval whether or not the tstat was actually calling for heat. Anyone got any thoughts? Thanks

Chris

If I understand your problem correctly, consider a programmable thermostat with a period set at a slightly higher temp.

If you have internet access at the site, look to see if the NEST thermostat meets your needs. The NEST will afford you the ability to monitor the temp via a smartphone or your computer.

Good luck, R1chy

Or you could just turn the thermostat way down.

Read your literature on your heating system and make sure low temperatures do not void any warranties, if not set your thermostat as low as you can but a few degrees above freezing (40º to 45ºF should work well). If low indoor temp set points do void any warranties then set the thermostat to the lowest possible temp. To ensure protection the coldest part of the house really needs to be above freezing because without the system running and no freeze protection in the lines the lines risk freezing otherwise.
