The site's registration is likely broken... It is such a poorly designed site I'd not even bother chasing after them to see what is up.

There is nothing broken. Most registrants have no problem signing up, but security is tight, due to malware problems in the past.

It is such a poorly designed site I'd not even bother chasing after them to see what is up.
If the above were true, why would a core of good members keep coming back, and why would the same members return after the crash of the domain last year?
Admittedly Tool Talk is not one of the big sites, nor is it the type of forum many like, but we like it and will continue with it as long as members are participating.

I tried to register once and had the same issues, this was a year or two ago. I gave up.

I think you just explained a lot. The site is small, and won't get any bigger (but do you care?) mostly because users can't register! The error message is unclear, the question(s) are unclear, there is no 'contact the administrator' link, the help is the out of the box for the administrator while you've customized the site so it no longer matches the help in any way, and the forum software is buggy (try hitting refresh on that registration page, the results are very interesting, especially where you customized the 'security' questions!

I stand by my comments: the site is poorly implemented, and it is no surprise that new members are few and far between. If you are not logging registration attempts, and reviewing carefully why each fails, you are not really doing your job as administrator. Several here have tried to register, none (that I can see) succeeded. I even tried with both IE and Firefox just in case your bugs were browser dependent. Oh, well, they were not--it fails consistently under both!

PM me if you fix it and I'll try to register again. If it works, great, if not I'll let you know exactly what happened.

I don't have any idea why people can't see that the second word in the site name is Talk, and the site is talking about tools! I guess the fact that Papawswrench is the portal name confuses people.
I just signed up as logintest with no trouble at all!

I am not interested in having thousands of members that don't post, or even care about the focus of Tool Talk. I am only interested in having quality members that participate regularly.
Anyone having problems registering is welcome to message me for assistance, I am shown as owner and administrator, so people can do so. I am also on quite a few other forums with links to Tool Talk in my signature.
I don't feel I need to defend Tool Talk at all, as it is just my own labor of love of the subject, and is not set up to make money or fame.

Security question:

"What is the second word in the site name?"

Why is "wrench" not the answer to that question?

Maybe the security question should be:

"What is the second word in the forum name?"

You have a good point. I'll see if that change can be made. Many on the web call a forum a site, even if in error. The registration is straight out of the software, not modified by me.
