I cannot seem to find anything this small. the length is approx 5.5" and the body diameter is maybe 3/4"? They don't use 10mm balls, they just have eyelets. Based on my calcs a 20N is about what I need power wise but I cannot seem to find ANYTHING in this size nor are there any markings on these things.. Any help would be appreciated.

yeah if i have to go custom I will. I have to believe these are some cheapy struts for something, I Just don't know what. They're in an RV so I assume they are a fairly common item somewhere. I just don't know what to search for I think. The least powerful I can find so far is 20N which is still too much but even then i'm finding 6"+ lengths.

Surely those things are common as dirt (and $2 each). Is there a real reason to switch to hydraulic?

These doors open vertically (top hinge) and two of them have nothing whereas the others all have them. I don't feel like holding the door up to access items inside of it. What keyword did you guys query to find these? I could not, for the life of me, find these and I can usually find anything. I think using the word hydraulic in my query killed me.

As always you guys are freaking amazing.

well, I started with spring cabinet door opener and went from there. Primarily an RV thing, and I don't really know why. It might be that they have a tendency to have squashed wall cabinets. they certainly have a tendency to fly open as well, and the hanging doors would help with that. There may be a gas strut version also for RV cabinet doors, if you want one.

That upper bracket allows it to toggle (that's what my dad calls it) or snap over center and hold the door shut. If you're installing fresh then any reasonable length would work. Long as it fits in the door.

Yeah the doors are only 6.5 and 8" wide that are missing them which was my problem. Any gas/hydraulic strut I could find was 40N or more powerful. That'd snap that door in half trying to close it I bet. Based on my calcs I needed about 30N if using 1 and 15N if I use two.

thanks guys, I just got notified on these. I did find the exact ones my other cabinets use but given the doors are only 6" long the springs are too strong. I did disassemble one of them and replaced the springs with what i had on hand but they were too soft. I'm buying some springs on amazon in hopes I can find a combo that works. Right now it has a .105mm coil 9mm OD x 60mm spring. I had some .83 mm springs but not enough of them to get me to fully extend the shaft. I think the .083 mm coil will do the job.

Have you looked into compression springs? Of course I can't find one right now but...a compression spring located about the same place your gas strut is holds the door open. When you want to close it push the spring at about it's center. The spring bends and you can close the door. It will straighten out on it's own when you open the door next.

I know what you mean and i didn't. I think I can modify these spring struts I just purchased to work if i find the right coil spring. I have an assortment coming and i'll test them out when I get them.
