Ok, so I purchased a new reverberay tube heater {40K BTU-20FT tube}, when the unit is not running I can hear a faint buzzing, I disconnected the electric power to the unit and it goes away. So I know the sound is coming from the unit my question is does anyone else have this same noise when unit is not heating? My guess is that it is fine but I am wondering if its drawing a small amount of power at all times. The unit works great and I am happy with it just wondering on the buzzing sound.

If there is a 24v transformer ... probably you should get in touch with where you bought and let them give you anew one ... usually they buzz just before burning out.

Control transformer. :)

It's probably mounted to a fairly thin piece of sheet metal which acts like a speaker cone. I can hear the 60~ buzz from the control transformers in my Beacon Morris heaters because of what they're mounted to.

The heater does have a 24V power to the thermostat, is that what your talking about? Let me clarify that it is a faint hum, hum I guess is a better description of the sound. I can hear it 10 feet away, not loud but just enough for me to hear it, my ear is now tuned into the sound so I can pick it out easily. Probably someone new in my garage would not notice it.

I just don't want the humming sound to turn into an ugly electric bill because the unit is pulling power at all times. My thought would be that once the heater has satisfied the thermostat it would shut off and be completely quiet, but maybe not. Thats why I'm asking to see if anyone has the same sound after the unit shuts down.

If it is a hum , then it's most likely the transformer and that's normal. Like the Previous poster said if it's mounted on a pc of thin sheet metal , it's magnified.

Ok I wont worry about it then, will consider it normal unless something changes, thanks to all that replied.
