I have one of these benders that the manufacturer doesn't exist anymore. I'd like to get dies for it.

Does anyone have one and know what other dies will fit it? I know the Pro Tool dies look dang close but a few hits on a google search indicated that they don't fit and some indicated that they do. It's a lot of money to buy them just to find out.

If any lives near Wake Forest NC and has some bender dies that I could try that would be great too.

Thanks, I think those are some of the ones I came across. I've contacted Pro Tools and they are being really helpful in trying to figure out if the die's will work. I'm gonna send them my measurements tomorrow but it's looking like they aren't gonna work.

I may just try to sell my bender to someone who is only interested in bending 1.75 tube and use the funds to get another bender. Kinda ***** cause I already got the air over hydraulic setup and all...

1.75 is the most common die we sell (by a large margin). I am sure you will have no trouble selling it.

I remember when the guy that made TubeTek started selling those machines. He marketed them to the offroad community mainly.

I took a look at the machine, our dies are nothing like those either.

What do you want for the air over hydraulics? More info please. I'm looking for an electric or hydraulics for a Hossfeld bender I'm going to build like the old one I had in the shop that burned up.

I'll try to post the measurements. It's kinda an awkward thing to measure, so my numbers will have a little wiggle room.

I haven't even looked to see what's it's worth yet. Or really what the cost to replace is.

Sure looks like a JD style bender.

I'd be surprised if the JD or Protools dies don't fit.

Any markings on the die?

See if this is a better upload, and I would give these numbers a +/- .05.

Anybody got an idea of what it would cost to have a die made? I'd be looking for 1 or 1.25 diam tube at 4 inch radius? I might even be able to buy a blank die and drill it myself...

So, Protools was a no go?

Have you called JD?

I thought they used to sell them blank? Maybe worth a call.

I'll check with the contact at pro tool first then try them. That guy at pro tool has been really helpful.

Thanks for the tip.

Sooo...why dont you measure your die for this dude?

I measured my bender JD2 Model 3 and it does not match holes are further apart, diameters are about right, Pins are .875 so .890 holes and 1" base Pin...

1.75 x 5.5CLR is the most popular die so I am told...
I have 1.25x3.5 and 4.5

After looking through that link that TheEquineFencer posted, the pirate 4x4 link, on the second page one of the posters said "I used a JD2 1-1/4 x 6.5CLR and 1-1/4 x 3.5CLR in my tubetek bender. A 1 x 3.5CLR will not work."

so... maybe its worth a try. Wonder if they take returns...?

If you have the ability to modify the dies, you can make them work.

I refitted a Protools die to My JD2 clone. Involved cutting the strap arm off the die, and moving it. And cutting off the die pads off the follower and welding then to a piece of cold rolled so you basically end up with a JD2 die.

TheEquineFencer, I sent you a PM but I'm not sure if it went through. Anyways after looking at the Hossfeld dies, I don't think they will work but I appreciate the offer. As for the air over hydraulics, I got that setup from the guy in Asheville that made the bender. It uses a harbor freight air over hydraulic cylinder. If you want more pics of it let me know.

DougWil, I have a drill press and a welder and access to a mill so I know I can make something work!

So after thinking about this for a while and even having a member offer to make me some die blanks, I think I'm going to get a lathe. I've got a bunch of things things on my wish list that could be made from a lathe so now seems to be the time to find one.
