Ok,
I've read this thread in the past but it would be great if someone that went with Tuff-Seal could chime in.

Climate; New England, ie. snow, sand, salt ( very fine particles )

Race Deck looks great-no doubt about it.
Race Deck customer service is outstanding.
The Race Deck flow through allows winter debris to fall through to be vacuumed up later

Not crazy about the clackity-clack sounds from race deck

Tuff-Seal (30% more expensive) claims to contain water, sand, and presumably salt.

Heavy duty PVC claims to be better for sound, foot traffic or activities.

Does anyone have Tuff-Seal and is it as good as advertised?

Thanks much!

Hi,

Each RaceDeck floor will have its own unique sound. You might notice this for a few days until the floor conforms to the subsurface. Check out RaceDeck ShockTower. This product is great for foot traffic or active areas and will absorb many of the sounds common in a garage environment. ShockTower can be installed throughout the entire floor, or just in specific areas, such as in front of a workbench. RaceDeck is made of 100% pure polypropylene plastic which has proven to hold up in the toughest winter environments and will never wear no matter how much activity it sees. Feel free to contact RaceDeck specialist Jenn Storms at [email protected] for more information.

I sell both polypropylene tiles (not Racedeck brand) and PVC Tiles. I do offer the Tuff Seal Brand.

Polypropylene tiles are smaller (generally but not always), hard plastic type tiles. They generally offer superior stain and chemical resistance. You generally have a gap between each of them, with higher end tiles having one that is less noticeable. They do create an echo chamber and they can make cracking noises but those issues can be resolved with an underlayment. They do not protect the floor and generally it is required by the warranty (but rarely done in practice) to clean underneath them periodically.

Tuff Seal tiles are quiet and generally larger. They interlock out of the box practically watertight and instructions are included for water tight installations. They are flexible and people consider them 'softer' but they are far from soft. They are not as stain resistant and the manufacturer suggests either a urethane or acrylic floor finish for protection. We have generally had good luck with the acrylic products but we did have one job where the customer hated it.

Matt,

Happy to help. ShockTower is a great option for a new floor or to add to an existing floor like yours. Just one of the many things that set RaceDeck apart.:)

That Tuff Seal looks like a fine product but at double the price of Race Deck I think I would stick with Race Deck.

I am ever impressed by RaceDeck customer service/professionalism. It's even evident in these replies.
This solution to the noise concern is perfect.
Thanks to all who posted-much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Marco

I considered Tuffseal, but just couldn't let myself spend that much. I opted for 18" RD and put two layers of landscape cloth down underneath the tiles (just in the foot traffic areas). I have no regrets. As you wade thru flooring choices, you'll find there is no perfect flooring-advantages and disadvantages to each one.
