Picked up a 43875 in an auction lot recently, but the head is very loose - how tight should it be? I've got it apart, and the spring washers look pretty flattened; is it just a matter of replacing these? I'm assuming that the tension for the head comes primarily from these washers, and not from the gimbal pins. The screw that goes through the beam was fully tight, with the washer in the middle of the split intact - I'm assuming that's correct?

revive the 2 spring washer with couple pair of pliers and rebuild/test
I had a hard worked one that needed thinner washer in the split so could pull in tighter .
do prefer design without the washers and just adjust screw to desired tightness .
The washers in these just same as when used on flexi heads go flat thus loose.
a bit better design uses recessed bore and stubby spring bit like found on some socket head wrenches .
