Turn on fan without heater?

I have a 100k BTU Hot Dawg "explosion proof" gas heater in my shop. I'm wondering if there is any way to make the fan on the back of the unit come on without the heat? I just want it to circulate the air.

It's hooked up to a normal household type thermostat, with a setting that says FAN: On/Off/Auto. It doesn't do anything when I change this switch. There are only two wires hooked to the back of the thermostat, with more loose ones. Do I need to hookup more of the wires? How do I get the "Fan on" setting?

I don't know about your specific heater but some can and some need an added control. My houses heater just needed the extra wire hooked up but my garage heater requires an added control feature that I never bought. Just put in a couple of ceiling fans.

My furnace has a separate pair of wires that control the fan from the thermostat. Check your wiring dia for both the heater and the thermostat.

At a guess, the fan on your unit is wired only to the internal thermostatic control, probably with a jumper. That way, the thermostat controls only temp, and the fan comes on whenever it's needed to move heat from the firebox. Check the wiring point of the thermostat on the unit, and if there's a third terminal, you will need to run a lead from it to the proper fan override terminal on the thermostat.
