So I am working on getting a outside wood boiler installed at my house.

I have the Heat Coil installed in my furnace above the A coil in the duct work.

Is it as simple as turning this switch into the Off position and the Fan for the furnace will come on/off when the thermostat calls for it?
that would be great as then in spring/fall IF I don't have the wood boiler running and want to still heat the house up I can just turn this switch on and go back to have the furnace run on propane.

Carrier 92 furnace?

thanks for any and all comments.

No that switch will turn the furnace off.

In most furnace systems The fan runs when the plenum temperature rises ........if the temperature never rises the fan will not run. When the burner shuts off the fan either runs for set time or until the temperature on plenum drops. Some have a duel function where the temp drops and timer runs the fan for set period of time. A variable speed fan system might speed the fan up at the heat cycle run. So the added heat coil has to have a add on fan controller in most cases.

If you don’t want the fan on all the time ( which is common choice with outside boiler) you would need a fan controller.

I had a similar system years back. The wood boiler is on all the time......so low fire and low fan is common choice. There’s a huge learning curve to get the fire and fan just right. Over fire and under fan cause cause a boil over and under fire and over fan gets “cold heat”.

Is yours a professional install ?

Assume your going to run antifreeze in close loop ? Boil over on antifreeze loop can get expensive. Froze coil with no antifreeze is worse.
Are running a air blower on the fire box ?

My system had a separate furnace fan controller......but the fan ran all the time for the most part. Mine came with the house........but no instructions. Hence the learning curve.....

Do you have a circulation pump the needs to come on with a call for heat?

That switch turns off the gas valve. Most furnaces will lock out after a few tries when they fail to detect flame. You need to use the g terminal to run the fan only.

When you say "A" for the AC ?

Typically with a basic system with AC there is more than one speed -- the furnace will turn on the heat speed .. Ac relay normally flips to a higher.

years ago you had to switch them -- you should be able to just energize the heats fan like the manual switch on the thermostat. Simple relay -- or just have the pump relay end switch for the boiler make the connection

Im running a Central Boiler Classic Edge 760, Outside Boiler it will maintain water temp all on its own. and It'll send me low water temp and fire out alarms via its Fire Star system or so I have read.

will be heating both the House and a my garage and a workshop.

The Boiler will get the water up to 180 or 170 and maintain the water at that temp regardless of the heat load. Pump will run all the time to keep the water moving throughout the system.

I just need to be able to turn the fan on/off on the furnace when the house calls for heat via the thermostat.

I would also like a switch to set the furnace over into propane mode and it fires up and runs the propane burner if I want or need to heat the house using the propane burner.

Garage I'll just have a switch on that Heater and turn on/off when I'm out there working. Workshop will be controlled by a thermostat as well.

thanks for the replay I knew it would not be that simple as just turning the fan to off.

I want to put in a Eco bee smart thermostat to run the house furnace as well.

My current thermostat has a fan only setting which just runs the fan on the furnace. regardless of the house temp.

Im thinking Ill be calling my furnace guy to get this setup how I want.

would have been super easy to just turn that switch off and have it all work like how I wanted.

I'll just go and cut wood to feed the beast that I know how to due!

thanks for all your replays!!

Could get a 2 stage thermostat and wire G on the furnace to stage 1 (w1) on the stat. W1 on the furnace could get wired to stage 2 (w2) on the stat.

Normally is would just run the fan when it calls for heat. If the hot water coil can't keep up it would kick on the propane burner.

if you only need the fan at the manual cfm setting -- a simple thermostat will make the connection ..... depending on if the main thermostat is a relay or electronic you can have them in tandem.

The key with any boiler is for them to run at the lowest temp needed for the job .... how do you control the fire ?

The coil temp is based on need .... yeas ago all coils were based on 180 because that's what baseboard needs typically at the feet that it's installed and old boilers needed hotter return water

Simple way to do it is to use a Thermostat that can be set for electric heat mode, this means it will bring the fan on via the G terminal as well as call for heat on the W terminal on a call for heat. Add a simple low voltage toggle switch between the W on the circuit board and the W wire from the Thermostat.

Switch off the thermostat calls for heat and only thing that gets energized is the G terminal for fan, with it on it will work the furnace normally with the exception of it bringing the fan on at the start of the heat cycle so you may get a bit of cool air at the beginning of a heat cycle.

Instead of a swirch one could easily use a ******** aqua stat to close the white wire circuit if the water temp from the boiler is low, this does allow it to be more automatic and if the fire goes out it will allow the furnace to keep the house warm.

Lots of people will simply add a Thermostat just to run the fan and simply connect R and W from the stat to R and G at the furnace, this works fine as well.

thanks again for all the feed back!

That sounds like a great setup on the boiler end.........mine required a lot more baby sitting to control the water temperature.
