Hi, I have been reading this site for a few months, excellent site.

I have a garage/shop with a narrow door area. When I get a car in, I have to turn it 90 degrees either right or left to drive it onto either one of my lifts. This is difficult and annoying so I want to build a turntable. To turn manually.

I have been using GoJacks to turn the cars, but I imagine a turntable would be much easier.

I have done a search but found nothing.

Has anyone seen anything like a turn table?

I thought of getting about 30 two inch ball bearings and mounting them to a steel spoked table that I would weld up. The bearings would ride on the edge of a steel bar fastened to the concrete floor. That way any junk and dust will fall off the bar, leaving it to roll smoothly.
Or I could fasten the bearings to the floor so they remain stationary. Then the table would ride on them.

And it all has to strong enough to drive my 2 ton van on. My other cars are sports cars, they don’t weight much, about 3000lbs.

One of the lifts I have is a 4 column ramp type. It is about 6 inches off the floor so I can make the turntable 6 inches high and drive right onto the lift. Then the spoiler lip wouldn’t rub either!
The other lift is a 2 column type so I will have to build the floor up 6 inches to get the same height as the turntable.

But it’s actually building the turntable that I need guidance/inspiration with.

Any suggestions/ideas would be very welcome.
Peter

What a neat project! I know car dealers here in the states use heavy duty turntables all the time to showcase a vehicle for sale. A quick Google turned up some neat results including the mention of "air bearings".... hmm... the use of compressed air seems like a cool idea. I'd love to see progress updates on this one.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes !!! Looks perfect!

How big is it? How deep is it? What is the concrete poured onto, a steel frame? Or is the rolling surface (underneath) imbedded into the concrete? What type of rollers does it use?
How is it centered? How do you keep the concrete on the turntable from cracking? Is it thick?
Does it roll easily, like by pushing lightly on a car?

Oh man. No sleep for me tonight! I’ve got AutoCAD and Solidworks started up and will be drawing tonight.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I am making progress on the turntable, just though some of you might want to see this.

I am building a similar system minus the electric motor, although…

Aussie Safe Car Turntables

How smart is that, you put a video clip on youtube and then just list your Australian phone number, ****** bogans. Get a website and get your act together before the chiwanines copies start running of the production line, MATE!

Call yourself Aussie, ha!

Probably, if you think you're the only one to ever use an on-line dictionary. Then there is the possibility that the author of that reply also used an on-line dictionary, saw the definition, and attempted to make a joke, and assumed that others would realize it was a joke. My bad for assuming.:dunno:

Ha, lost track of this thread after I dropped the Bogan word; yep bogan is Aussie for red neck. I think it is similar to red neck, in that you can either be proud or ashamed at beging a red neck.

BTW; a gathering of bogans is a "pack of bogans".....

Ok enough with the hijacking, 710, how are you going with your turntable.
