Turquoise paint

I'm a fan of turquoise. I know not everyone likes it. I think the right shade has a very vintage look to it.

I'd like to eventually use it in the shop to paint shelves, cabinets, machinery, tools.

For most of these I'd want an oil based enamel for brushing or rolling, but it would be nice to find spray bombs. Basically rustoleum.

Color that seems closest to what I'm looking for is RAL 5018, although that's a European color standard. I'm sure I could find paint chips, but then what?

Having a heckuva time finding a source without spending a fortune. Seems the big box stores are only set up to tint latex.

Any ideas on where I should look?

You may want to look at the Pontiac engine color from the 60s/70s. And you can find it in spray cans. Also, our local Sherwin Williams will put any color into spray cans.

I'd find a better way to apply it than spray bombs. Even a cheap spray gun will give better results. I had an old truck that I painted Tartan Turquoise, a Chevy truck color from the late fifties. That was a nice color.

Was at Lowes yesterday, 'n saw a new color on the Rustoleum rack,...

Seaside,(320263)..... I bought a rattlecan,... ain't tried it yet,....

Spray can would be nice, but not a necessity. It's just easier than cleaning the gun for small jobs.

Mostly I'd be brushing or rolling.

Problem I'm having with off the shelf colors is there are several in spray that are close to what I'm looking for, but they don't come in quarts.

I've read several accounts online that the big box stores either won't tint rustoleum or, if they do, the tints aren't compatible. I don't know of any real oil based enamels at the big stores, although I'm still looking. Lowe's seems to have a valspar product similar to rustoleum, but not recommended for wood.

Was at Lowe's today.

They had some Valspar spray bombs that were pretty close to the color I am looking for.

Asked the paint guy if they could tint rustoleum and he said no. Asked if they had an equivalent paint they could tint. They do, but it's only good for metal. It's apparently better than rustoleum but it dries too hard to use on wood.

Then he was like, wait a minute...

Took me back down an aisle and they have an oil based porch and floor paint that is tintable. Can be used on metal or wood.

So I'm thinking of getting some of the good metal paint and some of the porch/floor paint tinted to match the spray cans.

Color is called tropical oasis. It's a muted turquoise. I think it will add a little color without being too bright.

I would go to a real paint store. Box stores don't know how to match by eye. A real paint store can match anything in any product.

I like turquoise too, especially if it's 1: a nice patina wear pattern, or 2: skillfully mixed with contrasting copper to look like heavily weathered copper.

I also like the industrial olive-y greens of the 30's and 40's. My wife likes the copper/turquoise look, but hates the olive-y color. Im undecided how to do the new garage work area. If it ever stops raining, they can start building it....

sprayed a few pieces in my shop in a turquoiseish paint. It was actually the colour for the nitrogen piping where i used to work. The paint is a sherwin williams industrial urethane modified enamed and I sprayed it with a cheap king gravity gun

Nice work.

The vise (at least how it appears on my monitor) looks to be about the same shade as the color I got from Lowes.

I have a couple cans on the shelf. Haven't had a day warm enough to paint yet where I didn't have another project that took priority. Hopefully soon I'll spray something and see how I like it.

Most of my tools have been in storage for several years and some, unfortunately, had to be outside. So just about everything has to be gone through and at least inspected prior to use. Some things will probably need repair/replacement but we'll see. In any event, if I have to take the stuff apart anyway, it's a good opportunity to give it a coat of paint.

I'm also about to build some workbenches and a tool chest -more stuff to paint.

Good choice on the color.
