I can see having one for how-to videos or whatnot. I prefer not to use my laptop outside because it was rather pricey (more than I'd like to pay twice, anyway) but a cheap tv with a firestick or a roku could be nice.

I am not a huge fan of a tv in the shop. I feel like I would get less done. Stereo on the other hand is a necessity

Yep 42" flat screen connected to a PVR sat receiver with a separate dish on the shop.
Roku or laptop gives access to youtube how-to vids when needed, eBay and web tech info.

Wife works hospital night shifts and comes home and crashes, so I can't watch those F1 qualifying sessions or races live in the house on Sat and Sun mornings so I skulk out to the shop and turn the volume up. My own little piece of heaven.

The PVR is programmed to pick up all of the usual diversions and allows you to always have something you can listen to and rewind if something is interesting enough.

Streaming stuff is the way of the future, on demand:

I have a 40" on a homemade swivel mount (made out of left over gas line, a pipe flange, unistrut and hardware), so I can watch it from my bench or anywhere else in the garage. I have lots of car manuals on .pdf now so I use it for those and also for YouTube, Dish, and a PS3 for Netflix. I also like to hook up my OBDII data logger (auto tap) to the tv so I can get a much better look at my gauges and sensors. It's hooked up to an old stereo and Formula 1 and Moto GP (and even Nascar) sound pretty good in there.

For those resisting the urge, definitely get a tv. You'll find even less reasons for not being in the shop.

I plan on upgrading my bedroom TV, then relocating the old one (32" Visio) to the shop. I'll have an Apple TV hooked up for throwing videos to it.

Doing the exact same thing with my bedroom's 32" TV. Just waiting on Santa to deliver the new one.

Well, it’s been quite a while, but my TV setup in the shop has been awesome! Beyond the ability to throw YouTube videos for information up there, I have it connected to a PC for diagnostics (very helpful having things up on a big screen), and I bought a $36 antenna for OTA broadcasts.....looks great! Now I can play out there and watch the game at the same time!!
