In the last 2 weeks Iv noticed a few tv shows that are sporting HF tools in them. Thought it was cool since usually you would always see truck brands in these shows.

1st- overhauling- Pittsburgh roto ratchet with the green handle

2nd- wheeler dealer- Pittsburgh 6 in. Digital Caliper

3rd- how it's made- US general 5 drawer red tool cart

Most of the shows on Velocity I noticed use Gearwrench. I thought they used pretty much all Mac on Overhaulin because Foose is sponsored by them. All the Power Block shows use Matco.

They use Teng tools on Wheeler Dealers.

That was in the previous shop across the pond. In the new shop in California, they have a whole new set of tools. I even saw some Craftsman tools being used on one show.

I think we're going to see a lot more product placement advertising in the future as sites like netflix offer content with no commercials and so many of us access our digital content selectively off the web. I just watched Jurassic World recently and there was some rather strong shots of coca-cola, starbucks and other product placements. Who knows what subliminal images were in there.

Friend of mine with a P51 has a box full of HF stuff in his hangar, we always talk him out of trying to do any work on it as he is a plumber by trade which looks like a recipe for disaster...

If you look at the new episodes there is a lot of new Waterloo pro HD boxes. Tools seem to actually be what each guy has of their own. I have seen the guys use just about everything from Snap On to Craftsman

So what's the big deal? CM is made in China and has a lifetime guarantee. HF is made in China and has a lifetime guarantee. So, for the heck of it, let's consider a floor jack from each company:

Sears -
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-4-to...p-00950168000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

HF - http://www.harborfreight.com/4-ton-steel-heavy-duty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-60706.html

Who's gonna pay $60 more for the same thing?

Not me. I have two HF rapid lift jacks ( 3 and 4 ton ) they work awesome.

They have many different tool box brands. I think I've seen a couple of blue Snap-on boxes, a pink box that is pinstriped without logos. I noticed Charles(The one that took some hydraulic fluid to the face this Monday) uses a black Cornwell. There is roller red and two large black(on the back wall) are Waterloo boxes. The paint shop black box is Cornwell also.

They probably get paid by the company to feature their products in use or on display throughout the show. :p

Wheeler Dealers California looks like the producers went out shopping on a Sunday afternoon before filming and bought what was available locally. Nothing wrong with that and Edd certainly makes it work.

Now, if I were VP of Marketing for Snap On, Mac, Matco or even Craftsman I'd have that shop all kitted out with my tools and a couple of banners to boot. Maybe even get Edd to a moment here and there to describe the function of special tools to the viewers.

*** Monkey Garage, aka the king of product placement has a bunch of the limited edition waterloo gas monkey garage tool boxes. Basically the new waterloo HD boxes with the gas monkey decal affixed to it.

There's a mixture of snap on and cornwell carts in the background too.

From big *** fans, to the wurth wall, to Kaiser compressors, to the banners in the background of many shots, gas monkey has figured out product placement

My favorite car show  Desert car kings had a bunch of Harbor Freight stuff on the show and even listed harbor freight in the credits.:wtf:

I believe that the new mob steel show has a bunch of hf carts. And what looked to be 44 inch stacks painted black.

:

The @$$ clowns of Orange County Choppers had @$$ monkey garage beat for product placement. They seemed to change out welders/tool boxes every couple of weeks. They had the Miller welding and Snap On bike builds, Immediately before those two builds all the Lincoln welders and MAC tools that had been floating around magically disappeared. Somehow they managed to work cutting something on the Flowjet into every episode. Lista as did Juniors shop and had giant logos on all the cabinets. Subtle they were not.

I wonder what happened to those clowns.

Of course they do, it has been going on for a couple of decades.

The biggest product placement blunder of all-time goes to M&M's. When they shot E.T., M&M's told Spielberg and company the did not want their product to become associated to an Alien. The movie went on to be a blockbuster hit and pretty much launched an almost unknown Reese's Pieces to the candy everyone wanted.

Since then product placement has become more and more relevant. Every show on TV has multiple products. In fact you also see many DIY shows where you know the tool but they blur the name or they put tape to cover the name; most likely because the show went to the manufacturer telling them they were using there brand but that manufacturer did not want to pony up any cash. usually shows getting started and have not a name for themselves yet. Established shows like the various Holmes shows; he and his crew were all Dewalt, then one season every crew member had Milwaukee....better deal was struck.

I wouldn't want to buy a car made with HF Tools :wtf::beer:

The show with the US general box was from a factory that has some highend stuff. I can't recall what they made tho. Just slipped my mind. It some sort of car I think. I'm sure if he had a US GENERAL box he had some sort of HF tools in there.

I've not seen very many episodes, but I know I've seen a mix of Hilti and DeWalt on the same show.

Chances are the guys wrenching on the machines that make your cars are using Chinese and Taiwanese stuff. Heck, one of our CNC tube benders is Taiwanese and it's better than the US and German made ones on either side of it at half the cost.

Keep this thread going. The HF Phenomena is really something to behold. Who knows, more HF celebrity endorsements, the bigger the picture gets, and somewhere down the line, HF gives up their shady practice, and instead, ensures every customer is satisfied with quality tools. :bounce:
