Two car Block

I have drooled over the large wooden frame workshops from over the pond for a couple of years now since finding the GJ.com

I do not have the land for such a fantastic build so have went for what I could fit in my front garden. It won't have race deck or the like as I will spend most my time in there with the welder or plasma cutter running as I enjoy fabricating when not at work.

So with the help of my brother and a couple of mates I began

So the area; My front garden is only 60 x 60 so the wife will only allow me to steal 450 square feet. I argued we had a back garden but that never really helped. Thought I best quit while I was ahead.

Dug out for the footing

Concrete and block foundation in

Dug out and leveled for ******** and sand sub base.

So 8 ton of ******** and 3 ton of sand later I am ready for the slab pour

DPM laid and then 10 ton of fiber infused C20.

Few mates came over to help with the pour

Thanks HiHo, the weather held up the block work even thou we have had a very mild winter. Block work had to stop by the middle of the afternoon most days to all the mortar to go off before the evening frost.

Looks very similar to mine, except I went for cavity wall construction. The additional 8 inches on the sides would have made a big difference though.

What finish are you planning for the blocks?

Thanks for the comments guy's;
I plan to roughcast in white to match my house.
I have the roof on and will dig out some more pictures tomorrow.

The storage in the roof will only be minimal as I went for a hipped roof to stay in keeping again with the house. I do however, have a single 20x12 garage attached to house that can store the junk, allowing me to keep the new garage for my must have stuff.

Thank you for posting, SMC. It is always interesting for me to see garages and builds so far from where I live. I enjoy the neighborhood pictures too, as they place the garage in context. The building techniques, architecture, the houses, the weather - they differ so widely from place to place.

Yes that is an old Police box or to most outside the UK it's a Tardis the preferred time traveling transport of a certain Dr Who fella.

The guy that owns that house is Canadian a really nice fella who owns and drives an old VW Camper as his weekend toy.

Andy I totally agree I love looking through this forum, only problem is how jealous I get seeing the massive plots builders in the states provide, where land space is not an issue.

Anyway I have sorted out some more pics. Thanks for all the encouragement.

Roof loaded with the tiles. All sofits and fascias as well as gutters fitted.

All the cuts done, ridge tiles next when I get some warmer drier weather

How is the street made? From the picture it looks like it transitions from asphalt to cobblestone to brick in front of you and your neighbors house? Are quite a few of the streets made that way? The brick work on the street looks nice.

How is the street made? From the picture it looks like it transitions from asphalt to cobblestone to brick in front of you and your neighbors house? Are quite a few of the streets made that way? The brick work on the street looks nice.

You are correct mate, the main drive up the hill is asphalt then after the turn in, over a large cobble area {a decorative way of slowing you down} the rest including our drives are monoblock. Not that common to have monoblock other than on drives due to cost and normally only in areas of small house numbers, there are only 7 houses in my cul-de-sac. The cobble entrance area appears to be fairly unique.

Perth is only 40 mile up the road and a nice part of the country.

That is what they tell me... I hear the "glens" are up that way and the area is really beautiful!

I also have been told that there are A LOT of Duncan's in that area (Perth/Angus/Dundee)
