Two Doors or One?

I am beginning to plan a 2-car, detached garage. 24x24 or 24x26. Cape Cod style, one or two roof dormers. While I think I like the look of two single bay garage doors better, I'm wondering if a single, double door would be more functional. Thoughts?

I went with two 10' doors on my 24X32 shop. There is a passage door between the two. That give me plenty of room to move around two cars inside and no fancy parking requirements

I like two doors better. It is easier to drive into a single door, unless your single door is real wide. It will give you more room between vehicles in the garage, but can also take more of your wall space. You can open just one door if you want when you are working in the shop and I just think it looks better.

I'm of the 'one door' mindset. I like the ability to drive the car (or whatever else) into the middle of the space. It's really a personal choice as either way could be good.
It really depends on what you want. There are some other threads on this subject around here if you look... You'll find all sorts of opinions.

You mant want to consider any tax implications, too. In MD, taxes are higher on multi doored garages.

For instance, my garage can easily hold 4 cars (even with some clutter), but since it only has 1 door its considered a one car garage for the tax accessment.

I like the look of two doors over 1 but it is almost double the cost, 2 doors and 2 openers, double the maintenance and unless you go w/ 10' wide doors forget about parking something really wide in it. Will it be a front load or side load, if it's side load it will be hard to make the turn with a large car? Although when you have 2 and park 2 cars in the garage they only work half of the time. It's all personal preference.

This is what I found to be true, too. The large "standard" width is 18'. You might consider that size.

I like the single door. I'd go with the 18'. My shop is 50' wide, I have 2 18' doors and an interior wall separating the shop from the storage side. So basically my shop area is 28' wide with the 18' door. Pretty much what you're talking about. It works great, good access, one garage door opener for either bay.
