I am looking from those who know, what is the height recommended for a two post lift for a GMC Sierra 4WD or a vehicle equivalent in range for a lift. Some lifts are standard at 11.5 ft and offer 2-3 foot extensions. What are the groups thoughts?

The ext height comes into play on odd vehicles like cube vans, service body trucks and vans, also vehicles with ladder racks.

Take the height of the vehicle and add the lift's lifting height (usually ~6ft) which will give you the clearance you need. (probably add a few inches for error margin)

To add to this, the height of the vehicle is from the lifting point, not the ground. A two post hoist doesn't care if you've got a stock truck or 12 inches of suspension lift (body lifts do matter).
