While perusing eBay as I type this, I found two rare Skil worm-drive saws.

One of these is a still unopened model 77:50 Commemorative Edition worm-drive saw. Right, this is a model 77 gussied up in faux gold housing (except the handle grip), in celebration of the model's 50th year (1937-87).

On the box, it says this edition would be made for 90 days only... which meant if production of the saw began on December 1, 1986, it would no longer be made after March 1, 1987.

The other worm-drive saw I wanted to mention here was the #107, with its 9-7/8" dia. blade. This did not last as long sales-wise as the #67, #77 and #87 worm-drivers (#67 and #87 became #367 and #825 respectively by about 1952, when Skilsaw, Inc. was reorganized into Skil Corp.). This is even more of a lost treasure among Skilsaw worm-drive saw fanatics, as the motor is rated 18 amps (!).

The problem with the Commemorative Edition saw is I wouldn't want to use it, it's too pretty.
I remember Bosch offered a special edition one sometime around 2006(?) that was polished and what not. Pretty saw, too pretty to use.

To johninct, where have you tried? Do you have a Skil/Bosch service center nearby? Have you tried ereplacementparts.com?

I loved those when I was in vocational school. I'm used to the cheaper saws with the blade on the other side now. I wanted a worm saw bad back then but the cost was to high. Now I don't care, funny how that works.

Major Ramifications: Each of those "gold" saws was also individually numbered, again according to what's printed on the box.

JohninCT: What is the type # and serial # of your 77, so that you can find out exactly how old it is? You could send all that info to Skil's customer service team and they may clue you as to the age of your product.

I will get that info when I get to my shop. I would say it is from the 1950's or no later than the 1960's. It uses the internal coil spring for the blade guard.

Another gold one...no box.

I used to arm wrestle a 8 1/4" Skil worm drive back in the 80's when I worked in Albuquerque building custom adobe homes. We used it to cut dovetails in 4x8 beams as a 7 1/4" saw wouldn't cut all the way thru. You were considered a 'man' if you could one arm it and cut a 2x4 on a scribed line free handed. I carried 2 framing axes in my pouch, one was a 32 oz Eastwing and the other was of unknown weight wood handled that I used the axe blade to cut adobe with. That's where I got my Popeye forearms from. ;)

For those of you interested in Sears-branded tools: Here is a 1984 Sears Craftsman Industrial 9-2761 (135.276101) worm-drive saw on eBay, with its original box and literature, but the auction is over, selling for a final price of $76.50. I'm wondering if among the 12 bidders who wanted this, if they are those here at this forum?

For all those of you that own a Skil or Sears worm-drive saw made between November 1986 and May 1987... might want to check that lower blade guard.

Skil's date coding system was all letters (HNY, HNZ, HPN, HPP, et al)... while Sears went with the easier-to-decipher Julian number codes. "H" indicates the production line, while the "NY" or "6307" after the production code letter is the date code. Since the 68,000 units announced in the recall were first built in November 1986, it would be easy to assume "NY" would be November 1986, and "NZ" is December 1986, "PN" is January 1987.

The date code, embossed on the warning label, reads "HQP3" which translates as February 1988.

Does anyone know the thread size for the bolt that holds the blade on for model 367 saw? Reverse thread should bolt???

Hi, about 4 years ago I purchased a skilsaw 77;50 gold commemorative edition 7 14 inch worm drive saw type 16 . for $ 30. in Fresno cali off of craigslist. I see anniversary edition tools all the time and don't think it's any big deal. But, as of 3 months ago , while on a roof building wooden curbs for Hvac units on a new Les shaub tire store in sanger cali, my skil would not shut off after releasing the trigger. I had to go to my backup womens saw. The trigger switch went out. The plastic housing handle that holds the trigger switch has always been black duct taped since I replace the cord three years ago. Tonight I started looking for these parts online. An hour and a half later, I still find no parts and keep seeing rare, rare, rare. This has been an awesome saw. And although I purchased a new 77 model a couple months ago, I like backup tools. so where , if at all , can I get parts for this saw ? Will current 77 models trigger switch work ?

Hi I just purchased a 77:50 skilsaw commemorative 50th anniversary edition type 16 wormdrive saw in the original box with instruction booklet and parts diagram with the original blade. Saw is very clean with very little use and works perfectly. Any idea on the worth of the saw? Thanks for any info

Most power tool switches are standardized to an extent, and getting a replacement shouldn’t be a problem.
The power tool companies may have had the part made with a proprietary model number, but the switches usually have specs on them, and you can look thru images of switches to find a likely replacement.
Last Time I was at Lowes they actually had replacement switches and cords for Skil Saws in the tool crib.
As far as the switch sticking, on of the major Electrical Switch manufacturers, Eaton, had a recall on some of their switches that effected most major power tool manufacturers, and witch covered a ridiculous number and type of tools.
I’m not certain, but there must have been something inherently wrong with the design or manufacturing over a period because it effected a ridiculously large number of manufacturers.
Given the number of tools affected, many of the different companies switches are likely compatible.
Newer cordless tools and brushless tools may be an exception to the switch compatibility, since many of the tools use fancy circuitry now.

Now that Bosch has sold Skil and Skilsaw to Chervon, a Chinese tool maker, who is the source for replacement parts? Those Skilsaws even predate Bosch ownership.
