This seller has two (2) Skil 427 right-angle drills for sale as part of the same auction. One is older (gray housing) and the other is newer (dark gray housing). The newer version also ironically has a 3-wire cord as opposed to the older one having a 2-wire cord.

The light gray version supposedly dates from circa 1968-72 while the newer dark gray version dates from circa 1972-78.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I love the Skil industrial/commercial duty tools, I still use my HD77 1/2" drill that I bought in 1981. For those who may be unaware Bosch bought Skil and that is how they started up in North America. For me the dark gray series is my favorite, those are the epitome of Skil's design and toughness. I can still remember drilling hundreds of 1"+ holes in concrete with a Skil 731 Roto hammer.

That's how it ended up, but that's not how Bosch started in North America.

Bosch was marketing power tools in the US at least as early as the mid-1970s because I remember seeing them at trade shows then.

Emerson bought Skil in the late 1970s.

Around 1981, Bosch bought Stanley's power tool division to get ahold of Stanley's excellent and highly-respected router line and to eliminate the competition from Stanley's other power tool models. Bosch discontinued all other Stanley power tools, and all service and support for them, almost immediately after the purchase.

Around 1991, Emerson (Skil) and Bosch partnered and combined their power tool lines in the US under the Skil-Bosch name.

A few years later, around 1995, Bosch and Emerson ended their joint venture, with Bosch taking over management and ownership of Skil.

The dark gray series Skils were excellent heavy-duty tools. I've still got a couple of drills and an angle grinder from that era.
