Built these a few months ago to get rid of some clutter and add some organization. They aren't in the garage but they are right next to it.

The first is a recharging station. I was tired of the cell phones and headsets and battery rechargers taking up counter space and outlets in the kitchen. Took some old shelves and made this -

I then decided that we should have a place to keep all of our batteries together. So -
View media item 3267Basically the same former shelves ripped to 2 inches with slots cut at a 5 degree angle on the table saw. The angle helps keep the batteries from sliding off the shelves. It is backed by quarter inch hardboard which is also what the shelves are made of.
Together -

These are an excellent idea and there's no reason they shouldnt be in pretty much everybody's house/garage. The only thing I'd suggest is a hinged lower front panel to hide the chargers, surge protector, etc.

Very nice, and I agree with Dan about the hinged front panel to hide the cord mess. But it looks great, and very convenient.

I had originally planned for a cover over the surge protector. But after installing realized that it would be a problem with the battery chargers that plug directly into the strip. As you can see they do hang down past the bottom. In my case, it is mostly hidden behind a door so it isn't so much an issue. If it was exposed all the time, a door would be a necessity.

This is why I love GJ. Amesome ideas like this!
I recently created a charging station in the garage. I need a larger surge protector or the octopuss type extenders for the transformers.
