Hi All
Does anyone else feel that if they buy a tool from anyone other than the Snap-on guy does he make you feel as if you're being unfaithful?

I've got no shame. It's all about pricing and availability. I've checked SO pricing on their site while on the SO truck - even looked at other truck sites too. Heck I've even called NAPA (to place an order for pick up) while waiting for my order to ring up at Autozone. When you're in the middle of a job and need something now, you just have to git-r-dun!

I used to have a MAC guy that was really good. and I felt guilty about it. But the last 7 or 8 years he is just about get the next sale and only for the dollar, so now I am too.

Sorry bixxjs, thought that you were trolling for a snarky response and didn't understand the relationship with your Snap-On rep as being "like family". Personally, I don't know if he is giving you the guilt trip, or you are doing it to yourself, but if I can find the same or better quality tool for a significantly better price, there should be no guilt. He is not feeding you and your family - you are. What you do with your money is your business. If he truly is like family, he should understand that simple fact.

Post 9, or buy on EBay!
I buy bearing and gear pullers on an as needed basis, use them and if they need repair I have the Snap-On guy repair them! He probably doesn't like it but a Sale is a Sale in the end!

it's my money,
i spend it as i please.

in the past ive had dealers that had the attitude that brand X tools sucked, bad mouthed everything and everybody, what they were selling was absolute gold.

they typically didnt last long in the tool business...

the good dealers seem to know that maybe they dont offer the "best" of everything....

My guy does not care or pop off with attitude.
I tell him I am looking for items and if he has any wiggle room he will discount. Or wise he is fine with replacing broken items. He also is very happy to service some of my racing friends that do not have dealers.
But how many have loaned tools to the Snap On guy?
Right now he has a pin puller and bushing tool parts being used on a early Harley case by another customer.
I give him a hard time about some of his offering like wood chisels in the monthly flyer.
But I have known my SO for 30 years he is one of the better liked dealer on the Island. I have never heard a bad word mentioned about him from other dealers.
He loans me tools as needed to demo with out putting on account.

We swap food he brings me fresh fish from Montauk and I will bring him Lobster rolls made from Jake's seafood when I go pick up my loaned tools on Friday.

Since he has been a dealer for years one of my little joys is getting to search the truck for old stuff, the good part comes when I find obsolete wrench he charges me the original price not the price of the new equivalent.
One of the other things is he leaves me on the truck when he goes into shops, I do my own ordering and invoicing.
So your results may vary.

I used to buy from a Snap-on dealer that would never utter the name of a competitor's brand, i.e., Mac, Matco, Cornwell, etc. And if you pointed directly at a Matco truck nearby, the Snap-on dealer would act like he doesn't see it.

I don't get that, because I can not afford to pay two or more tool trucks.
But I do feel bad for our MAC man that comes by week after week faithfully and never makes a single penny. I almost want to go out to the truck and buy a five dollar whatever, just because.
I said almost.

MAC's got some nice looking stuff now with the Axis ratchets & Mac-Grip screwdrivers.

No and it's nothing personal, it's business. Most of the time if he doesn't have it I'll just wait until he does or get it elsewhere like NAPA, Amazon, etc.
