Glad to see your in the house. I imagine your wife has a worklist a mile long that does not include the garage.. also glad they moved that hydrant. The builders never care about that stuff. Glad the MUD district did it for you since you pay them a ton of money.
I got some work done building some shelves in the garage. I need to go back to HD to get the rest of the MDF sheet for the actual shelves, but the 'structure' is done.
This is basically the main storage for the garage. I will build a smaller shelf unit on the other side as well as my workbench, but this will store most everything.
It's a simple design that I've used in our previous two houses and also built in my parent's garage. 2x4s anchored across several studs and the rest built off of that.
It is 96" wide/long. That let me use whole 2x4s for the front and one piece of 4x8 MDF for the shelves (cut down to the right depth of course).
The organization and purging will happen once the shelves are complete and everything else is off the ground. For now, I just put what I could on there. It's easier to work with less stuff on the garage floor. I'm tired of trying to work around it.

I started working on the main work bench yesterday. I only had about an hour and a half to work, but it's coming along. I am anxious to get home from work to get some more done.
The strange cutout in the middle is for me to be able to stand on the ledge but still belly-up to the work top. I know I loose a lot of work space, but it is still functional, and it will prevent me from relying on the floor space below to stand.
On the left side, the large lower opening will be used to store the shop-vac. It's just plain bulky and cumbersome. It won't really serve an operational function there, it will just get it out of the way.
On the right side, I plan to add another layer, but split in half and make two drawers that will operate on sliders. I have been wanting a filing system out there in the garage for manuals, write-ups, instructions, decals, warranty docs, etc. It will be primative, but I hope to be able to clean it up some for asthetics.

I plan to use the left-side wall for storage bins on a wall mount bracket (nuts, bolts, nails, screws, etc). I would also like to get a wire spool hanger for different colors and gauges of electrical wire. I have some tools that I would like to hang on the back wall to keep handy, and will also eleviate some pressure from my too small tool chest.
Toward the top of that cut-out above the bench, I plan to add either a couple levels of shelves, or some sort of built-in cabinets.....perhaps a combo of both.
