i went to MENARDS yesterday to try to solve a problem i have, Somebody ( i don't know who ) cut the wrong wire in the wall and left it short, so i am having a hard time reconnecting it with out tearing out the drywall and so on, SO at Menards the sales person said they have this splicer kit for such a problem, you don't need an unsitely junction box, My question is has anybody use this kit - the instructions are a little vague, do i have to strip the wires or does that happen when you close the plastic lid? TYCO ELECTRONICS NON-METALLIC SPLICE CONNECTOR MODEL # CPHI-1116414-2............ There is only about 3" sticking out of the top of the wall! very tight to reconnect, can anybody help, i don't want to tear out the drywall to replace the wire!

You will have to read the instructions carefully I have heard that they are intended for manufactured home use, but cannot prove that. I personally don't care for a buried splice in the wall but that is just my opinion.

I heard these have been used successfully for years in modular houses before being approved to use as a "general" in wall connector (there is also a 3 way splice).

it is a "vampire" style tap, that means it has sharp pins that pierce the insulation....it needs at least an inch of cable on either end, prefers a couple on the head end, so the romex can snake through the connector strain relief and not be "pulled" off.

They are likely not approved, but will solve the problem at hand. Might be better, dave's corollary #4, to ask forgiveness, than permission to use it.

Since it is "in" the box, I would not worry, however I would not use it in the wall or other closed space. That is just me.
