Tyco Wire Connector Crimper ??

I'm trying to find a reasonably priced crimper for the airbag wire terminals on my truck. They're Tyco connectors and according to the wire specs are AWG 22-20 but look smaller to me. When I try to use a crimper rated for size 22 the connector is loose and the tool does not even come in contact with it. Is there a crimper for very small wires/crimps?

That sounds like a description of my terminal, it's also very brittle and needs to be crimped right the first time. I'll try and post a pict. Thanks

look here http://www.jameco.com/Jameco/catalogs/c292/p145.pdf lower right corner, p/n 99443 this should do the trick if the terminal you are trying to crimp is open with tabs that are folded over during the crimping process. Can you post a pic of the terminal?

That's the one I was looking at on another site http://homeavcables.com/500-210.html?productid=500-210&channelid=BIZRA still the non-insulated size is 20-22. When I tried a crimper with that size it was too big for the terminal. My terminal does have the foldover tabs, and needs a sharp center crimp after the tabs are folded over.

The Telephone spade lugs and ****-insulated connectors are thicker (I think) and the tool will work on them. The wires and terminals on my connectors are very thin. Maybe I could use it if I can grind down the point where the tool stops.

post a pic of your terminal, or a P/N for the pin.

If you find the Tyco/Amp pin part number you should be able to cross reference it to the crimper at Digikey, Mouser, Newark-in One or any of the other electronics specialty places.

I work in the robotics industry and use many of the Tyco/Amp pins and connectors. I have several different crimpers since no one does them all. The bad thing is some of these crimpers are $300! You may get lucky and find a more generic version that would work.

that pin seems to have the same crimp profile as a molex KK series. The $7 red handled crimper we are discussing will work for it, you just need to find the right slot in the crimper.

The tyco crimpers are very expensive, they do have a field or "tool Box" crimper but they don't guarantee that it will crimp these terminals properly and it's $71.**. That red handeled crimper, I did order it, thanks. Now I need to find out the proper color codes for the wires on the airbag that I'm working on. The wires got ripped off and they don't match the wire colors shown in the service manual. Always something................
