Tying two switches together?

My family room has two switches controlling 6 cans. One switch per row. I really don't know why it was done that way as I never only light up half the room. So I'm always pulling both switches on/ off.

Can I tie them together with one switch? Is it as easy as just pigtailing all the wires together and installing one switch?

Yes, as you suggest.

Just make sure that the current rating of all lights on does not exceed the 15 Amp rating of a typical switch.

You need to pigtail all the lamp leads together. The now single switch will only need one hot lead to it. (I am assuming here that both existing lamp switches are on the same branch circuit which would be very unusual for them not to be.

Use a dual gang, single switch cover.

Yes. The switches are in the same box side by side. My thought is to pigtail the wires together and install one Lutron Caseta dimmer switch. Since there are only six cans running LED bulbs I believe I should have no problem.

Should not be that had. Eliminate the one switch and its feed.....just cut it off. Then take the "load" or th switched leg and splice it to the switch you are keeping.

Magic, since the switches are in the same box and likely fed from the same source, then its a simple job per the posts above. 6 cans are safely rated for a single 15amp switch.

On the lines of JustSam's advice, in the unlikely event you find they are NOT fed from the same source, you should post back indicating that. There would be other precautions you need to consider in this case. Unlikely but hard to tell without a picture.

There was a reason I asked if these are on the same breaker in post #2 and others have echoed this concern.

You clarified they are in the same physical swtich box. But NOT if on the same circuit.

Until that question is answered NOBODY can give you the finally, declarative answer you are seeking.

Pull the two switches out- just pulled out of the box, any other wires as well, all still attached- take a picture or two. Should be able to tell from that....
