I had to replace a spindle on a angle grinder. Got it apart and back together but need to repack the gears. Makita says use TYPE 2 BEARING GREASE. Makita does not sell it. I've hit the local NAPA and the internet and I'm informed that there is soap and oil types of "Type 2". Question is -- where do I find type 2 oil based grease? Is it identified by color as in blue or purple? What's in there now appears to be clear or light yellow.

I think the tube of grease I have in my grease gun is "Type 2"
I know it is what I use when I open up any tools.

More than likely they are referring to the National Lubricating Grease Institutes consistency designation. NGLI #2 is just another way of saying that grease should have the consistency of peanut butter. It is the most common "grease" designation.

If there is some in the case just push a bit in the gear. I have put a spoonful of 80/90 synthetic gear lube in, seems to work good.
