This unit is about 60 years old. I've had it for 40 of those years and have moved it 4 times. It is now in it's permanent location for the rest of my life anyways. It has served me well and still pumps great but I need something to do now that the Cobra is done and on the road. This compressor got me through all the body work and paint on the Cobra and never let me down. It was given to me 40 years ago by a good friend and neighbor but we had to carry it about 1/2 mile out of the woods as it was in an old compressor station that we couldn't drive right up to. I was 26 years old then so it was not too bad but I do remember it well. I couldn't do it now if my life depended on it.

Anyways I am going to clean it up, hone the cylinder walls, new rings, clean the valves and give it a new paint job. I'll post some new pics when I get it dissembled. I don't think I'll get into anything major. The old Century motor works very well with this unit. It too is old but I don't know how old. This is fun stuff! It will complete the remodel of my Cobra Den.

Nice, looks pretty well preserved, I'm chipping away on my own T30 rebuild from the mid 70s. Just ran the lines for the interstage cooler and the pilot valve. call these guys (Ingersoll Rand Tool Helpline: 1-800-866-5457) when you finally get a person they should be able to get you all the background info you need - they did for me

If you'll send me a PM with your e-mail then I will send you the owner's and parts manuals for the unit.

That machine was capable of making 1000 PSIG when it left the factory.

I got it all dissembled and found all I need is new rings. Got the rings ordered and bought a tool to hone and crosshatch both the 1-1/2" and 4" cylinder bores. Also got a new parts washer from Northern Tool and put that together last night. ( Another story:lol_hitti) So I'll get everything cleaned up and ready for paint. I plan on painting the compressor Hammered Gray with a black flywheel and paint the Century motor Red. I think it should look pretty good. I already painted the base gloss black. Will post some more pics after this weekend.

Well I was just going to scrub this thing up and spray a coat of new paint on it but after painting 1 head and seeing how tacky it looked I decided to remove all the old paint and start with bare metal on all of it. Oh my what a job! There are 3 coats of paint on this, the original black, a dark green and the last is red. So far I have done the 2 cylinder heads and both cylinders. I am using Aircraft paint stripper which I think is the best out there but it still takes 2 applications. You can wash the remover off with water so I am using a garden hose in the driveway to do this. I will take some pics this weekend. I ordered new rings from IR and already got the 4" but the 1-1/2" are back ordered 2 weeks out. I think this is going to look really great when I get it done plus the out-put should be so much better. Too bad I don't plan on restoring another car in the future!
