Got the Type B vent through my roof for my water heater, but not exactly sure about the height above the roof line. It looks like the 3-2-10 rule does not apply for Type B Vent. The chimney exists near the bottom of roof line on a 6-12 pitch detached garage. According to one chart I read, it says I only need about 1.5 ft above roof line if more than 8ft from a vertical wall. By vertical wall, I assume they are talking about the wall of house or bldg if on a multi level roof line/structure?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I was just messing around with some b vent and I was surprised at how low the requirement is depending, of course, on the roof pitch. Of course, your local code guys may have some other interpretation of the rules so it would be pretty simple to give them a call and find out what they "like" which is far more important than the code in most cases. The code says 15", but we "like" to see 24". Another clue is to check out some new construction in the area and see what you see.
