Type of tool needed to remove this?

Can anyone tell me what type of tool is needed to remove this piece? See photo. Is this a common design (standard tool used) or something custom (custom designed tool)?

It's got two small shallow holes drilled 180d from each other on the outer surface. You can see these in the image.

Thanks.

Hmmm...Not sure how I can get a tool made for cheap.

It is a control gland for waterproof housing unit for a digital camera. There are orings below the surface piece (cap) that I need to replace. The manufacturer won't tell me what tool I need and they said I would need to send it back to them to have it serviced and of course this means paying shipping costs + servicing costs + they charge ridiculous prices for orings that I can get from McMaster Carr or elsewhere for really cheap.

I went to Home Depot and looked at tools but didn't see any tool that looked like it fit the bill.

Retaining ring pliers? It's hard to gauge the size of the holes from the pic. How does the gland come out? Does it screw out or do you just pull it out?

Try an allen wrench that fits the hole as tightly as possible. Leverage it against the center button and see if it'll get it loosened.
Then, most bike shops should carry the park line of tools as mentioned above. There's that one and the SPA-6 and who knows what else. I know I have a two-pin spanner for bike crank bearing retainer nuts but it's fixed, not adjustable.

Hf sells a kit with many different types of tools to remove tamperproof bolts. Its like $6. Maybe something in that kit will work?

An adjustable pin spanner wrench would work, but those holes are set at an angle on a slope. :dunno:

I might just drill a big hole on a piece of 1x oak and drill two more on either side of the big whole to insert a couple of tight fitting pins (bolts, nails, etc. ).
Or go to a bike shop.

I'd try two of something, like allen wrenches or phillips screwdrivers.

Put one in each hole and grip both handles in the jaws of some channel locks, then turn.

This forum is awesome! Thanks for all the input.

I've never seen a spanner wrench. Does this drop me a ranking in the man department? :dunno:

The holes aren't threaded, but the piece itself is threaded into the housing part. The Spanner tool looks perfect I think, as long as it clears the angle and still can reach down in there.

There seem to be a lot of spanner wrench designs on Amazon. I'd like to buy a decent one that will last. That Facom design looks uber nice! The Pin Spanner tool looks incredibly simple and it seems it might work too. Hmm...I've got some buying decisions tonight.

Do an image search on 'pin spanner' and 'pin wrench' and it will show you quite a few different styles of tool to do what you need. Pay attention to the pin size required and the distance between them as what you have is perty small in the scheme of things. We used to have some tools that looked like a nut driver with two pins protruding for small fasteners like that. Some security bolts have pin drives.

Can't quite tell from the photo but a security screw is what I was thinking. Is it like the second one from the bottom?

If so then Harbor Freight or PJ Tool would be a source. You could also google 'security bit set'.

That camera tool looks great. Nothing better than specisl purpose tools. Although for this I would use straight nosed circlip pliers.

That lens spanner tool looks really cool.

Thanks for the help guys, you guys were right. The straight nose and bent nose retaining ring pliers worked like a charm! I just got a set of 8 beautiful Knipex pliers and they worked perfectly to remove that piece. Now I just need to find some other projects to get good use out of these beautiful German crafted tools I have sitting on my desk.
